If you call them, provide the VIN, they will provide the prior maintenance history...

I have all of the maintenance history documented. The receipt from gintani doesn’t show what type of rod bearings were used.

Doubtful. King only recently started shipping rod bearings for the S65, and based on BE and our own testing they aren't suitable as a direct replacement without honing the rods. Best to call Gintani before making assumptions.

Gintani did my buddies m5 about 6 months ago and said they used King. I understand dgoldenz were done a few years back so I'm sure you're right if they haven't been available. Was just browsing their catalogue and they say they offer a standard size as well as some plus sizes for ground down cranks. I wasn't blaming the engine failure on the bearing manufacturer just sharing information.

Wow. What did you have them replaced with? BE bearings?

Suspicious especially right after an oil change.

Previously SCed car; maybe lost main #1 and took out the two downstream RBs with debris.

Super rough luck in any case, sorry man.

Sorry to hear mate. Hope you can nego a deal with the shop to get the car back on the road shortly. And of course, would be interesting to hear their theories on what happened.

Good luck!

Whichever bearings Gintani uses, don't know what the answer to that is. They were done at the same time as the supercharger install.

You sure it wasn’t main bearings? I’ve read that supercharger puts a huge load on main #1 which in process takes out rod bearings too

If it shot a window in the block it was rod bearing.

Angry 2011 E93 43,300 miles, blown engine

2011 E93 43,300 miles, blown engine
Driving last week, shifted into 3rd, Manual Tranny, Rod goes through the block, no mods, never raced, original owner. 22k for a new engine fro BMW, no warranty.

This car has been very well taken care of. No word from BMW, car is sitting at a dealership in Louisville, waiting for my decision to replace the engine, or attempt to sell it and walk away.

feel for you. I was very fortunate to have MBP to cover mine when BMW wouldn't help (17K on the car, less than a year out of warranty).

Best bet might be looking for a used engine and have the RB's replaced before you swap it in.
