2008 6MT coupe
38K miles currently
Bought w/8,600 miles CPO
2 track sessions (similar to HPDE)
Daily driving (redlined maybe a handful of times only)

200 miles after purchase, O2 sensor issue that was replaced under warranty. Rear right "small" taillight has the known issue where it goes out because something with the socket is weird. Known recalled/issue as well.

That's it, nothing else. I just moved to CA so I consider it lucky since I don't drive anymore (ride motorcycle to work 100 mile round trip). Otherwise, if I stayed in NJ (where I drive 25K miles a year), my mileage would be a lot higher now.

My car was built 12/07!!! But the warranty expired 04/12 and I just hit 50K so I think i'm right on schedule with this thing. Warranty duration expired right before I hit the mileage limit.

The only other repairs ive had aside from maintenance are trim items like the i-drive knob, material peeling on the steering wheel and passenger door handle.
Did you ever get the passenger door handle replaced? Mine started to peel a few weeks ago...

I am over 65K miles, and i have not had to do anything out of warranty.

Just recently did the Inspection (60K), and changed brake fluid/diff fluid/trans fluid, and rear brake pads.

No mechanical issues other than the seat belt extender which put me back 60$

I am the original owner of an '08 with DCT and every other option. I have 75K miles with some small part replacement at 35K after my wife drove coast to coast (don' remember what part). We do an occasional track day/autoX and drive fairly spiritedly (a 4K rpm "mini" launch today). I have an aftermarket warranty. It is just insurance. The cars are very reliable, just expensive when they do break.

Oh..., my oil level sensor is bad and will be replaced during the next oil change.

Year: 2008 June production
Miles: 35k
Driving habit: spirited driving, 5 x track days (1 hour driving in total for each session).
Issues: Idle valve replacement (at 10k miles / c1 year), battery replacement (33k miles / c4 years) though the latter I consider as ordinary wear & tear.

The steering wheel vibration is mainly at highway speed, especially around 75 mph. Doesn't matter what the pavement is.

I've had the vibrations with the 18" OEM wheels and PS2s and Sumitomo after markets, the 19" OEM wheels and PS2s and Continental after markets. I've had multiple alignments and balancings, at the dealer and at Dinan, none of which has done anything meaningful. The dealer techs (BMW of Mountain View and Stevens Creek) have gone on rides with me and acknowledged the vibration but have said that it is "normal" and they can't do anything about it. The instructors at the M performance driving school laughed at the suggestion that steering wheel vibration was normal but I have given up and learned to live with it.

I seem to remember that others with 08s on this forum had the same problem at the same speed but it sounds like either they have gotten the problem resolved through balancing/alignment/new wheels or given up, like me.
Sorry if your already checked but
1. Are the rims not bent check on balancing mach
2. Sometimes the tyre itself has a runout
3. Ask your dealer to check your lower control armes they might be worn
4. Ask them to check all suspention bushes
5. Have you checked the back wheels
6. Try a friends wheels
7. Check rear suspention and mountings
8. Make sure balancing is 100%
9. ask tyre dealer to rotate the tyre on the rim and try balance again
Yes on the track you can live with it but I agree its shit on the road an no you can get it right. At the moment my right front the tyre itself is slightly distorted and has a slight vibration at 110 mph but its tipical of semi slicks.
Another question once you have balanced it, is it better for a short while or is the balance immidiatly out?

Most of these have been problems of mine at some stage

I have over 100k miles. I think im around 106k today. Purchased the car w 2800 on it. Did not buy the extended warranty. No unscheduled maintenance other than the seat belt extender. They've been mostly highway miles but I drive the car hard on the weekends.

Very cool to see some higher mileage 08s in here. I'm currently looking at 08s, and I'm not gonna lie... I'm a little nervous pulling the trigger on a car with over 50k miles(it would be my first BMW).

If you get CPO you could still have a couple years. Mine is warrantied until 11/2014. Bought it in 2010, 0 problems so far.

Don't be, if the car is clean pull the trigger.

I bought my e46M with 48k. Different than the e9xM, but gives you an idea.

Never had a day with warranty. Never had a problem either.

Nice! There aren't many out there over 100k on the odometer.

i just recently traded in my 2009 e92 which i bought new with 10 miles. last week it would have been 3 years since i had it, and i traded it in with 81k miles..(yes, i drove the fk out of it, and enjoyed every mile it went, lol) no major problems, just regular oil changes, the seat belt extender broke once, my tie rods where making a little tiny noise when backing out of a parking. all in all, the car was solid, engine still pulled hard, DCT still slammed gears. A+
