Refinishing my red Stoptech St60/40 in red, black logos
Even though my car currently has a black front St60 I have been wanting red front and rear calipers, so when I got the opportunity to buy a used set of St60/40's in red, needing a refinish I decided to do it.
Materials used were: 320 and 400 grit wet 3m sandpaper blue painters tape to mask pistons during prep and painting process 11mm flair nut wrenches for bleed screw and pass through nuts Air compressor or compressed air cans to clear any fluid left in calipers I personally wanted to keep cost down so VHT brake caliper paint was the route I went, as opposed to powder coat or professional paint. I used 2 cans for all 4 calipers and bridges This is a pretty straightforward diy. I opted to use blue painters tape to keep water and sanded off paint off the pistons and seals. After prep sanding with 320 then 400 I would thoroughly wipe down and dry calipers prior to paint. Use new painters tape on pistons to assure no water is trapped under tape. Remove (2) bleed screws and (1) pass through tube from each caliper. Either stuff pieces of rags or shop paper towels into the (4) holes. OR...buy properly sized bolts from the hardware store to plug holes. Hang the calipers using the bolt holes for mounting calipers to the car. I went with a light first coat, medium second coat, and finished with a properly heavy wet coat to finish with a nice gloss look. *I chose to prioritize heavily painting only the area of the caliper which will be visible through the wheel. Why bother wasting paint and risk losing the gloss on the front of the caliper just to coat an area which will never be seen when mounted? **I chose not to buy the vht caliper clear coat, you may want it For stoptech logos I initially bought matte black, and went with a 4.5" length, but after applying the stickers I am going to remove those and go with 6" and 5" length gloss black. More pics will come as I am about ready to pull the car in the garage to remove all 4 wheels and begin install. |

Hey thanks!! I recently saw the DDE guy get his Murci's calipers done while on the car, and they looked to turn out okay. Maybe this is the route to go. haha |
