Had my car in for three recalls last week, including the airbag.

I had the exact same three recalls on mine when I rechecked the BMW/recall website a couple of weeks ago. My local dealership booked me in on Monday this week - replaced the driver airbag and the battery cable. The other was not required. What a relief!

Yeah pretty sure they didn’t do the blower one on mine either. Been very happy with the service from Melbourne BMW (City Rd).

Too the people that have had them changed, I have heard that because the dealers don't yet have stock of new airbags without the fault, what they are doing is swapping the airbags out for what they call (like for like) replacements, the idea here is that they replace your airbag with a new one as this is less likely to go off on it s own and then when eventually in the future they do get the new airbags that don't have the fault they will get you back in and get it swapped again.
Anyone else know of this, and to the people that have had them changed, did the dealer mention anything like this? What airbag did they install in your car? |

Some cars we’re having a different type of airbag replaced (referred to as alpha) with a still defective but less deadly airbag. |

I got the recall letter in early July (2012 e92), booked in an exchanged with South Yarra BMW, got it swapped over today in 45mins. I had my new alcantara wheel popped on whilst the airbag was out. They didn't even charge me for that, I was pleasantly surprised.

It's a pretty easy job to swap, literally push two clips in the back of the wheel across, unplug airbag and plug new one in... and maybe coding

Update: Got mine done today.
They do in fact replace them with new and fixed airbags that don't have the fault like the old ones did. Also got the battery cable to fuse box recall done. The job took a couple hours including the battery cable being repaired also. Get them done ASAP if you can, these things are unsafe and shouldn't be ignored |

I had the airbag and the battery cable done at the same time a few weeks back. I was told the third was not necessary on mine. Is this last one USA-only as it implies on the recall notice? That said, it makes me wonder why it is showing up on our cars??!!

All campaigns carried out and had a new AGM battery installed. The original battery was on the car for two months short of 11 years when the car was produced in September 2007!

I think I could have kept going. But since the car was in for the campaigns I thought I might as well save another trip to the stealer. Got a very good deal on the battery and coding.

Hey guys, as you know I got the recall on the airbag and battery cable done a couple weeks ago. Without getting into to much detail I m haven't a wired issue now. Basically ever since it got done and I have engaged my horn, I hear a clicking sound coming from the fuse box in the glove box. I m pretty sure this is the horn relay but it was never heard before and now it s definitely heard.
To confirm I wasn't going crazy, a friend of mine with the same car had the same thing done last week and by chance called me a told me he noticed the same exact thing! It only makes the noise when the horn is engaged but it's weird to me that all of the sudden it s so loud. So if anyone that has had there done could please report if they are having the same issue. It would be very interesting. Thanks in advance |
