I was hoping not to burn a hole in my wallet but it seems that's what I'll be doing... coming from an HS mini & STU evo that is now going full track prep.
Woohoo congrats! Which region are you in?

Yes, we're all sitting here on our butts debating 275 square or some combination of 275/285 on the aforementioned wheels.

Meanwhile, I just bought a set of stock pads to replace my HPS units...maybe I went the wrong way.

STL & IL, go way back with Clark, and know Sean & Jason but I'm not a better driver than any of them.

I was thinking ST43s & adding titanium shims for when I try this car out on track. Those pads are rotor friendly for a track pad & take heat well but squeal a shitton.

Where did you guys all go to get your apex wheels? straight from the manufacturer? looks like tire rack is doing free shipping on re71rs right now at least..

Awesome.

I bought mine half from APEX and half from a private seller. I have EC7's which are a little heavier - wish I got the ARC8's.

If you go 275 - grab them from discount tire this weekend. They have a $100 rebate for July 4th. I'm personally debating another set but it'll depend on how many more (and how important) events I do for the rest of the season.

I also might add I got mine in March/April and they're already about done. Over 100 runs on mine, they are currently very sticky and fast but they won't be here for much longer.

Sam -- welcome. Your best bet is to hit a group buy on the wheels. Remember, if you are up for membership renewal, you'll get a $70 off coupon from SCCA on a set of tires. I think you will find this car a bit more exciting that the Mini.

Also, if you don't care about the 2-3lbs over ARC8's, I just saw these pop up:

Apex PS7 18x9et31 & 18x10et25 https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1509934

great tip, thanks - sounds like 275/35-18 is the tried and true (https://www.discounttiredirect.com/b...e71r/p/29677)? don't need the max setup, will be learning how to control throttle for a while...120hp mini & 300hp evo = 100% throttle all the time

thanks Clark - will start checking the group buys.

re: the shims - do your brake pads all have that clip that slots into the piston of the brake caliper? seems like it'll be a little difficult to run titanium shims that way, also not quite sure why that clip is even needed

Is anyone going to nationals looking for a co-driver?

Interesting comment.
I'm on the Eibach bar which I think I figured at full stiff is equivalent to the Dinan at full soft. My car has felt extremely well balanced... to me (I are dumb). I am also errantly running double the rear toe in compared to the standard setup. Maybe the extra rear toe in is balancing well with the softer bar? I get no significant understeer and oversteer only when you want it. (But, I am fairly skilled at driving around a cars issues without noticing what I am doing...)

I bought a Hotchkis bar (picking up this weekend) that is about equivalent to Dinan bar from what I understand, but I am inclined to not touch anything until I feel there is an issue.

Welcome Sam!
So what do you think of it so far? When you get on a course it will turn into a different car - more capable than you would gather from its relatively modest street persona. Double personality kind of car.

FS is going to be a fun battle in StL.

I'm working on converting yet another... After a 2 day Divisional at Peru last weekend, my friend Nick Myers (CM nat champ) is anxious to buy one too. The car felt awesome on 112 run tires, and he loved it. (I finished 4th and 5th of each out of 114 and 2 of those spots above were the ESP Mazda6 that no one is touching - which is damn good for me. Beat Nick both days. If we could only hold Nats at Peru I think I could finally trophy.)

so far it feels big, docile, soft, and a little boaty lol, but that's coming from the mini & evo. i've got a few things coming so i'm eager to see how it feels on an autox course prepped. i may want to do an all day GAX event to see how it does compared to the evo back to back

compared to an evo? It will sound gooder and go slower, and it will feel like it's asking you wtf you mean WOT here, no, here's some understeer followed by diff lock, hope you can see out the side window

I think power oversteer (the good kind that actually makes the car go faster not the dumb kind that makes you feel faster and punts cones 100 feet) is easier in the AWD evo than the RWD limo

Speaking of which, my car no longer feels boaty to me, or soft, but I'm 7 years older than I was when I was running in Stock class...so I must be getting older. And the car's getting lighter and stiffer as parts fall off and the bushings fail

These cars are pretty rad compared to anything else with 4 seats that's classed competitively in a Street class, especially anything comfy, but...evos are special

Congrats! You can still make it this year, they just raised the Nats cap.

Nah, got to sell my STR Miata and my 535i before I go into prepping the M3. Next year though!

I'm so excited, this is a really amazing car, and it'll actually be nice to drive home after the events too..

You all are now three weeks out from heading to the show. I'm skipping it this year but will be rooting for each and every one of you and will be following on sololive on your run dates.

For those going to nationals, could one of you note whether anyone is running 285/30-18s on the fronts, and how pinched the sidewalls look? You guys know if its bad or not?

z3papa & sgreer have used this setup. I just bought some 285s, but I don't think I will mount them before nationals. I believe the consensus was they are very hard to mount, but turn in is better with shorter sidewall - but maybe not worth the cost and hassle.

I just learned I may have to back out of nationals. Work. Sucks.

Thanks. Maybe I'll go the beginning of the season with that setup and see how it goes.

And don't forget to cancel before August 22 if you can't make it!

It looks stupid and they're a pain to mount. I don't think they felt any different either. YMMV

Thanks for the pic, it looks pretty pinched. I'll try 275s and see how the car's balance feels through the season and maybe just go with 285s in the rear if the car feels loose.
