2009 Price increase?

This info was burried in a thread but it definately needs to be brought to the surface. Right now it looks like there will be a $1500.00 price increase for 2009 models.

Has anyone else heard this? Any solid info from BMWNA or dealers?

Was that the dealer pulling numbers from thin air, or an estimate from BMWNA? I suspect it is the former, in which case, it is meaningless.

You can bet there will be some increase. It's usually a few hundred dollars. BMW will have to balance the fact that the dollar is sucking wind to the merketability of a higher priced car to Americans who are feeling the pinch.

Given the tight lips on BMWNA reagrding pricing, I doubt there will be an announcement before the cars appear.

$1500 sounds high to me. I'd probably guess $800-$900.

I thought it was worth digging as well. After posting a link to it in another thread, no one seems to believe it. The OP of the invoice purchased it using a military discount. But he did say the increase was $1500. Sounds pretty reputable to me.

Makes me agree with E that it might be good to snag one later in 2008 vs waiting for the '09.

I haven't heard anything official yet. Usually BMW will increase or change price a small bit here and there without many people noticing. $1500 seems a little steep to me, but I guess we'll wait and see.

Not using my logic. The avg price I seem to see for the e92 is ~ $67,500, say CPI Y/Y drops from 4% y/y currently to ~ 3.5%, that implies +$2,363 increase.

If the '09 increase ends up being only +1k - 1.5k that would be likely be less than the broader rise in prices - and then there's still the volatility in EUR/USD (cuts both ways). My guess is that BMW NA won't want to raise prices too much given the state of household wealth (gone negative growth 4Q) and the economy.

I hope it isn't more than a $1000, otherwise i'll be looking to get the 08 m3 compared to an 09.

agreed...on top of that you will have a great chance to get below msrp so the dealers can push the 08 models

small price to pay for waiting and ensuring that car bugs are brought to surface and hopefully fix by 09

Note that the 2008 model year will not be around for a full year since they released it in March. More like half a year. I think the 2008 MSRP must have been set with that in mind. Thus, I don't think the annual CPI rates will apply. That has been the case for the E46. The increase in MSRP was tame during the first model year change compared to the others.

only time will tell...i won't be in the market until sep/oct, so i'm definitely going to go with an 09, but it will suck to have to pay an extra 1500 if that is the case...bummer. hopefully there are other colors available, as some have mentioned. but doubtful.
