US M3 pricing sensitivity analysis

I put together a spreadsheet to explore the different pricing and options scenarios for myself. It looks like the range will be from $60k for a bare bones car to a $80k for an almost fully optioned car out the door under the best and worst case pricing predictions. Attached is the spreadsheet if you want to play with it yourself.

EDIT: Updated options pricing based on Davo's MIL sales info.

Well done....

This helps show why the M3 that doesnt come with leather or 19"'s standard is going to be well under 60K. Probably 57K.

With these two options alone the new M3 is priced with its competition.

those scenarios looks pretty accurate. Again, i really dout the car will go higher than 62K. Most likly high 50s.

Great job lucid. Just to encourage some discussion on the subject what are other guys guesses on the pricing for the DCT and the gas guzzler tax in the US. Thanks.

In my recent view leaning toward >$60k base I have not fully considered the lack of these very "basic" options. Leather for sure. I'm not sure I am glad the car is even offered without it. This may appeal to some very hardcore enthusiasts who really want a zero optioned car, but then again it is almost embarrasing for BMW to offer such a car without leather. You can the glass half full thinking this helps keeps the base low, or half empty in that BMW wants to gouge for every little basic option. I tend to take the latter view as their margin on leather will be >>> their margin on the vehicle! You may have me shifting my best guess back below $60k!

I think $2800-$3500 is a reasonable guess for M-DCT.

lucid: Did you leave out gas guzzler tax on purpose? I don't think it will escape. What you do think?

But Swamp, they've always offered the ///M without leather (..at least where the E46 is concerned), so why would it bother you now if they continued this theme? I am one of those individuals who would much rather have the speed cloth, but I do realize that I may be in the minority in relation to other forum members. I'd actually be more pissed off if BMW forced me to accept leather when I truly would rather do without it.

I left it out intentionally. Mainly because I don't know much about how the EPA figures are obtained, and how they relate to the EU fuel consumption specs. GregW seems to be knowledgeable about that stuff, so it would be good to get his opinion. What is your opinion?

Also, does someone have the exact option pricing for SMG on the 2006 M3? I think it was around $2800, but I am not sure. I can only assume DCT will be more than that.

On the fence. We have seen some reasonably good mpg reports and some terrible ones as well. With the rules changing it is hard to call. As well I don't think there is any way to translate from EU to US specs. Either way simply having it in your spreadsheet would be useful, if any user thinks it will escape they could just zero out that cell or row. Sure it can be added just as easily...

SMG for the late model E46 M3 was $2400.

I thought I explained my thoughts on the car being offered with cloth very carefully and thoroughly? I know what has been done in the past but BMW is trying to move the 3er upscale. They are not doing too well if it has cloth seats as std. What bothers me the most is the horrific profit margin they will obtain on the leather. I realize it is great for those who want cloth, lucky you, for sure (seriously!). But I think you are in a very small minority. Leather should be standard. Cloth should be a no cost option just like adding a sunroof and getting rid of the CF roof is.

This doesn't result in even a rough estimate? Has anyone mapped multiple cars to see what happens? I understand the differences in the procedures will affect different cars differently, but there might be some kind of rough relationship.

Which has been proven inaccurate (...if Davo's MIL info is accurate).

I am surprised that they might have decided to make people pay for the sunroof in the US...

Are you referring to this car specifically, or BMW's in general?

The M3, given it comes with a CF roof which should cost more than a regular roof. So removing the CF roof should offset the cost of adding a sunroof to some degree. Not that I care since I'm not getting the sunroof.

I would say it is very premature to call my claim inaccurate. We do have a NA released options list/ordering guide and it says sunroof is a no cost option.

Which is true, that's why I stated the information in parentheses.

I agree on all three accounts. I am not interested in a moonroof either.
