Understood... it is not that there's no used market for a stripped M3, the issue is that it is a very small market so either resale value will hurt or it will take quite some time to resell.

Even if it sounds counterintuitive, the strippper/very few options '09/'10 M3s will be very few just because of the cut in production, and those will suffer at the time of resale.

Even if they are ordered that way by dealers they will pay in another way: there's a stripper (only M-DCT) 2010 M3 in one of my local dealers since late October (09/09 production) and still not sold, and the dealer is discounting some $8000 on that sucker (MSRP 63000 and change, $55000 take it or leave it) and still does not move.

The people that would like to buy a new/used stripper M3 are all here in the forum, the 4 of them.
Which dealer has the stripped 2010 with DCT? I work in West Palm Beach so Ft. Lauderdale is not too far. Is it Vista? I might consider a stripped car for that price.

I added ZTP but only because it was the only way to get CA. I wanted navi anyway but I didn't want EDC. Same with ZPP and the folding mirrors.

Thanks everybody for your opinions. I am supposed to meet with the dealer again tonight, but we are still a long ways away from making a deal. I am trying to buy a Jerez Black coupe with Red interior, the car is beautiful. Still haven't been able to drive a broken-in M3. They have a executive demo with DCT so I am hoping to drive it tonight. I can't imagine what 8,400 rpm's sounds like.

By the way, neither dealer will give me anything for my 6 month old 2009 Z4 35i (sticker price $59,000). I've been offered $36,000 and $37,000 so far. They said there are $5,000 rebates on the 2010's which makes my car worth a lot less. I said $23,000 depreciation in 6 months, are you insane. Really pisses me off. Of course they have 2010 Z4's on their lot priced at $59,000. I may have to sell it myself, just didn't want the hassle.

You're right, and I agree with your point.

The blue coupe has a big dent in the passenger side just behind the door so be careful if you like that one...

According to their online inventory, the only Black coupe they have is a 2009 with manual tranny. MSRP is $63K so it must be stripped.

They have three 2009's in stock. Both dealers I looked at this weekend didn't have any 2009's. Anybody know of any current incentives on 2009's. I think the majority of the incentives ended in December.

One dealer even has some bullshit package already installed on all of their cars that includes Lo-Jack, paint protection, floormats etc. and it's $2,500. I don't care about any of that crap, I'll buy my own floormats if I have to.

Is the Technology Package really worth the extra money if it includes 5 other upgrades? Without the "M" button, can I adjust the Steering and Throttle Mapping? Any opinions? Thanks.
i did without. didnt need comfort access (read about problems) and gps i can get better at best buy. another thing to potentially go wrong.

They were really desperate to get that car out of there by this past weekend...

The resale value is based upon supply and demand just as the original sale value is. If, in the future, the supply/demand ratio of non-ZTP M3s is less than the supply/demand ratio of ZTP M3s, then the resale could theoretically be better for the former than the latter. Granted, there is no way to know if this will be true, but it is far from impossible. For example, if EDC tends to become problematic (and this is just an example, people) then EDC equipped cars could suffer in value.

I would recommend not sweating resale value and by the car that is right for you. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly... that's the reason that perhaps 1 out of 10 M3 at dealer lots are strippers because that's the real-life supply/demand ratio.

Of course, it is not that all M3 -regardless of optional equipment- are keeping their value like the E46 M3, at the end of the day you buy what you want and like. Resale value is just as additional consideration for the OP.

Why do people ask what options they should get on their own cars? I never understood that. You are going to be the one driving it, get whatever you want.

Not everyone has the opportunity to sample all options before ordering. It can be helpful to solicit some feedback. I do think that for things that effect the car's driving dynamics and feel, a comparison test is really a great idea if you are at all uncertain.

Perhaps it is because they really do not want a salesperson to answer their questions about their possible purchase, they want answers from owners.
