I'm in the process of getting mine installed. My shop is telling me the install was not as easy as lead to believe. Also apparently there is no filter in the new unit while there is one in the OEM BMW unit. I don't like the sound of this.

FYI - I'm selling mine if anyone is interested. It will be removed on Friday. I have a track day on Thursday so it will only be used then (Friday was the soonest i could get it removed). Price is $145 shipped.

Anyone tried installing this themselves? I'm thinking about reinstalling the OEM reservoir myself.

Yes, the OE reservoirs have a filter which is why you should replace the reservoir anytime you open up the p/s system.

But I don't think it is totally necessary...not that I'd take my word for it.

Ok. Are you suggesting that i get a new OEM power steering reservoir rather than installing my original unit? I only have 5k miles on my car so i was intending on reinstalling my original power steering reservoir unit that came with my car.

Just reinstall the stock one. It's essentially new.

Should be fine. More of a concern if you've racked up some miles on the p/s system.

I did exactly the same thing and installed small reservoir. But now I have an issue that fluid is spraying from the small reservoir

Does anybody have an idea how to fix this?

One more info: I removed seal from the small reservoir and made small hole where the cap screws on. Is it possible that this is the cause of the new leak?

Probably. I didn't make such hole and mine has no leak...

Somewhere I was reading that you need that hole to let the air out so I just did it...

I just ordered new one. I hope it will work this time.

Allowing it to vent was my concern too, but I think the miniscule gap between the threads on the neck of the bottle and on the inside of the cap allows breathing, but not spilling.

So far, despite constant animated plays with steering at the tracks, I've not had any issues. A couple of years ago, I went thru spillages, high-pitch winding noise, remaining fluid looking like broccoli/miso soup, etc - but, none now, even after track days at 100+°F temperature.

yea, go ahead and route that line to dump right in front of your passenger side front tire.

don't forget to route it 'in front' of the tire. If it's in the back you're doing it wrong

Great, I'm probably going to purchase one just as preventative protection. Been noticing a little bit of overflow, not enough to cause concern yet. Did power steering fluid need to be flushed during install?
