Has anyone tried the Active Autowerke E9X short shifter for the E90 M3??

...It looks like the best option? I also saw one at Turner BMW.

Me too have it on my coupe, the shifts are really smooth and short, though I think it will feel even better when I change the gear knob, definitively worth it, you won' regret it, fit and finish are top quality.

I've had great feedback so far on this kit, it is top notch in terms of feel and build quality. itofiari, feel free to give us a call to grab one. We are authorized Active Dealers and would be more than happy to help out.

We have the AA short shifter on our E90 M3 project car. The shifts are extremely smooth and short. When I first drove the car I assumed the kit would be very notchy but that was not the case.

Pics I took of the Active Autowerke short shifter:

I would highly recommend the UUC. It has a metal ball (not plastic) for about the same price, if not less expensive.

For those that are patient - you may want to hold off for the shifter from Rogue Engineering in a few weeks. You'll see a couple of surprises that aren't available from the competition.

Simply since final evaluation was just wrapped up and given the green light for manufacturing. With respect to RE, we'll be making the announcement when product is shipping and is installed on our own M3.

Those that have not purchased yet are now given the chance to make a decision on what is coming out - not forced to make a decision based on what has already been released or rushed to market first.

The plastic ball eliminates the resonance through the shaft. This is why BMW uses a plastic ball.

I was about to mention that. I am one that always has my hand resting on the shifter and the last thing that I want is for it to be constantly vibrating.

Sorry but how does a hard, solid plastic ball eliminate vibration? If you want to absorb vibration you use elastomers, aka rubber.

Just because BMW uses a plastic ball does not mean that it is the best design. Cost is a very important consideration for mass-produced vehicles. BMW uses floating calipers on the M3 and not many would agree that it is the best brake design in terms of performance vs. multi-pot fixed caliper designs.

Anyway, the best way to find out would be to ask members who have installed the UUC: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=175347&page=1

poly absorbs waves due to its porous nature. Metal has a higher transmittance ie. low absorbency. Regardless of who makes what, this is an absolute. Saying plastic transfers any kind of wave (sound, disrupt etc.) as much as metal is quite inaccurate.

Hi Buddy,

I just received my short shifter kit via UPS in Brunei this evening and am scheduling to fit the Active Autowerke Short Shift kit tomorrow (5th Nov).

Is the throw significantly reduced compared to stock? I have a custom knob from Whalen Shift Machine to accompany my shifter kit. Are you running the stock gear knob?

Do you reckon it looks too out of place?

Mate,
Today i have officially installed the Active Autowerke Short shifter kit for my M3 and have fitted a custom gear knob from Whalen Shift Machine.

The throw is simply a dream and pieced with the knob combo, its so nice to play with the gears. If you haven't already got the kit i recommend you do so cos its simply sensational to drive.
