I'm not impressed... I think if BMW did introduce a supercar it wouldn't look like an R8

wow... it's amazing how easily so many are distracted from the details by some simple smoke and mirrors. The story is not the photo.. that's just there for fun, what's interesting is the fact that there's talk of a BMW supercar. If built; you can pretty much bet the car wont look like that nor will the specs be identicle.... "Its a *RUMOR*.... it's gossip. it's for fun... However, under all that, there's a *glimps* of a possible truth... BMW Supercar! That, regardless of the specs or final design, is cool! If they do actually produce a super car, you can pretty much count on BMW to make it good.

There has been "gossip" of a new BMW supercar since they made the engine for the McLaren (or for that matter since the M1 ended production). They have yet to introduce one.

Yea i was going to say it's basically a CS front w/ a more sloped gallardo back. If I was going to spend 450k on a car, I'd want it to jump out at me, not look like they just took 2 cars and mashed them together. It looks good, but it's nothing special imo. They need something radical. For example, when the Carrera GT came out, I was like Holy crap I want that.

BMW to make new M1.

BMW is serious about a successor to the M1 supercar and we can expect to see it in 2012.

According to reports the car is now in development and will feature a carbon fibre chassis plus carbon-ceramic brakes, forged magnesium wheels, Kevlar bucket seats and a carbon fibre bodykit.

It seems like BMW may be feeling a bit overshadowed by cars such as the R8, Mercedes SL Black Series and the McLaren SLR, all coming from its main competitors.

Now the boys over in Bavaria want revenge and are preparing to wedge in an all-new V10 with twin-turbochargers and an ECU developed by BMW’s F1 team.

Expect around 625bhp which could push the ultralight supercar to way over 200mph.

An entry-level twin-turbo V8 version could cost around £90,000 but the V10 monster will likely set you back £250,000

I wish.....but based on multiple datapoints, BMW is not going to make a supercar. Reithofer, head of M, doesn't believe in Supercars because they don't make any money.

Don't get me wrong, they hate the attention the R8 is getting but BMW won't go down the path of cool non-profit projects.

I wish it were true though, I would get an M1 in a second.

TBone, that M6 of yours is already prob. pretty scary.

Can you get more car out of a more $$$? There has to be some diminishing returns compared to what you have.

BMW have on every occasion built the wrong car to break into the supercar market and because of this they have always been a failure. The R8 proves without a question of doubt that a mass market German manufacturer can not only break into this market but beat them at their own game and make a profit.

BMW's gift is building brilliant performance saloon/coupe cars but I don't think they have to ability to transfer they skills to a supercar and hit the bull's eye. They have done it in market sectors outside of their normal practice, the Rolls Royce being one perfect example but I still doubt they will ever make a successful supercar.

I hear you here.... BMW and anything but saloons and coupes haven't mixed. But Audi broke the unwritten German rule....it built a sports car to kill the 911. Porsche also broke rules.... Saloon and SUVs.

BMW will not sit idle..... It is just a matter of what they build.

I am looking for another 50-80 hp and 500 fewer pounds..... I track my car and all the current M cars are a bit portly.

BMW in a way started the movement of main stream manufacturers into niche markets, the X5 broke the mould, they re-invented the Mini, they are trend setters. Their only problem centres around supercars.

You should look at the R8v8, but look at a supercharger conversion. That will give you the 500hp and similar amounts of torque, all packaged in an engine which will still rev to over 8000rpms. Plus the R8 though still not a light weight like an Elise does feel very light on it's feet, ever compared to lighter cars.

Trust me, no one will call you gay for choosing such a wonderful car.

Yeah, understand, like I've seen elsewhere, BMW keeps coming out with better engines but then the car gets heavier too and the net effect is a little porker.

M5/M6 beautiful cars, but to track them, I think that really is their achilles.

Still amazing car, since I saw it on Top Gear, man that engine kicks ass.

Well Done
