Too bad there isn't a savvy lawyer whom owns an M3 and I willing to pursue a class action lawsuit. Everytime I read these threads, its mind boggling that BMW has not done anything about it.

Here is one from Bimmerforums. Last post mentions having engine rebuilt at 64k, oddly followed by failure at 71k. You would think the earlier rebuild would have replaced main and rod bearings. Probably follow up for more information is needed.

Looks like he had replaced the crank and bearings to chase a vibration issue. (lolwut?). Probably poor installation. I've got an S65 in the shop where someone replaced the main bearings but used RTV to seal the block to bed plate....You know that one wasn't done to last.

How would overfilling caused the engine to seize? Sensor in our cars is super sensitive, between full and overfilled can be a matter of couple table spoons.

Even with new rod bearings, that kind of behavior is so abusive to the engine that it would have probably failed anyway. Holding near redline for that long while stationary is going to skyrocket fluid and component temperatures far beyond what it would see even in a track environment.

RTV for the bedplate? Really?

I want to meet this tech and give him a good ol slap so hard his sockets spin in his box and the 10mm gets returned from the gods as payment.

You'd be surprised how much RTV is used on S65s and S85s by "professional" engine builders. (self proclaimed anyways).

Holding at 8000 RPM on the dyno as you work up though the load cells steady state to tune VE and ignition gets....warm. I did an S2000 a couple of months ago and the entire exhaust was glowing underneath the car. It was a gutted, caged car and all the 10 years of oil soaked damping material was cooking off and the whole body was smoking inside the car.

RTV LOL!!! That is terrible. These people shouldn't even be working on cars.

I'm sure even if you gave them the right product they wouldn't have a clue how to inject it properly..

Even that metal injection tool doesn't even work successfully, the proper way is to get the Nordson tool and pressurize the Loctite.

Engine failure at end of thread. May not be rod bearing.
