Yes, another rod bearing thread

I did do a search but I have a specific question. Has anyone suffered a catastrophic rod bearing failure on a car which has been driven conservatively. I have a 2011 E92 M3. 32,000 miles. It's my daily driver. It has never been started in winter. Barely if ever sees redline. And has never been to the track. I followed the breakin meticulously. No mods. No tunes. Completely stock. Is there anyone out there with a completely stock m3 who drives like I do have a catastrophic failure?

And I change oil every 7500 miles ...

Why do you even own an M3? Go buy one of the new 320i's.

Otherwise just enjoy your car instead of worrying about it. If it breaks you got extremely unlucky, chances are heavily in your favor.

Chances are extremely low you'll ever have an issue with the Rod bearings. Sadly there's little proof that how you've handled the car will make much difference on whether your one of " the ones" or not. If it worries you just get the rod bearings replaced at some point for peace of mind. You seem to love your car, I love mine too so it's worth 2500 for a preventative fix.

Yes and plenty of them. Some have exploded with less than 25k miles and newer model years. Check out the rod bearing failure Registry thread. Also many probably aren't reported because the low mileage stock cars are fixed under warranty by BMW.

To be honest I knew nothing about m cars before I bought the. One of my partners took me to the dealership and said "buy this" and I did. It's been awesome ever since. I work in a very rural area and my commute is 90 minutes in some days on windy country back roads and driving my car is spectacular and can't imagine driving a regular 3 series. Just because I don't track the car doesn't mean I don't enjoy it.

I was just curious because I decided to not buy the extended warranty and was wondering if that was a mistake.

I'm so tired of these rod bearing threads

This is such an overhyped issue, it's ridiculous people worry so much about it. OP: If you are so worried about it, either sell the car, or replace your rod bearings for peace of mind. Or, don't, and just enjoy the car. If you are unlucky enough to see a catastrophic failure, shit happens But I would say if you are banking on it, you should start playing the lottery, because your odds of both are probably about the same.

I'm sure your car is already ticking; sell it and sell it fast.

So did the N5x series. In reality, if people are constipated over the worry of the rod bearings, sell it.

It's actually good for a engine to see redline here and there.

I don't blame op for making this thread. In fact it's good that people are becoming more aware of the issue.

Op, your car is most likely fine but that doesn't mean it's 100% safe. I would get it done no matter how many miles I have if I'm out of warranty but maybe I'm just a fool for buying into this overblown issue. But to me, $2500 is much better than a possible $25,000 bill.

Also, once your cars warmed up, don't be afraid to hit the redline as much as you want. I don't abuse my car but I definitely drive it like it's meant to be driven once it's warmed up.

OP your car barely if every sees redline?!?! What is even the point of driving an M3 then? Im sure virtually everyone on this forum redlines their car everyday.

Let me clarify. I don't hit the redline with every shift but I definitely have fun with the car.

I plan on keeping the car for the foreseeable future and opted to not get the extended warranty. I was just wondering if anyone has noticed any correlation between how the car is used/abused and rod bearing failures. I drive the way I drive and I love the car. I just don't beat the crap out of it.
