E93 buyer remorse?

Just wanted to put it out there and maybe someone has been on my shoes before.

So I always wanted an M3 and wife was nice enough to surprise me last month and bought me a E93 2011 M3. The fact that she herself went out of her way to get it was just amazing and I love it. The car is everything I always wanted, but we have two little ones (a 3 and a 5 year old) and I think I might of had been happier if we had a little more room for when they’re hanging out with me specially when I drop off and pickup my 5 year old from school.

I now wish we had waited and looked around a bit longer for an E90 M3 instead.

Maybe next time?

Eh, the kiddies are small enough to fit in the back quite comfortably; car seats will easily fit back there. Plus living in the South, you'll be able to leave the top down a lot, and with no top, it's easy to get the kiddies in and out. Enjoy it!

In your use case I think the E93 is a win-win!

Kudos to the wife, that is definitely a keeper!!!

Been there; done it. My granddaughter would get embarrassed actually because the car stood out too much.

Wow, you have an amazing wife!

There is plenty of room in the back seats of the e93 for the kiddos. I'm sure they will love riding with the top down!

I had an E46 M3 vert, then E93 M3 and now have an E90 M3, I get it. However, I didn't move to the E90 until my kids were in the teenage years. I preferred the vert when they were younger, top down, putting them in the car was a breeze. Lifted them up and dropped them in. My daughter just commented to me she remembered my E46 M3 vert for that reason, "remember when you would lift me up to get in the car". She associates her childhood to a memory of that car and said it with a smile.

Practicality wise, sure an E90 is easier, but sometimes being impractical also works and great memories are made from it. I think the fact your wife had the sense to pick out and buy an M3 for you is not only shocking to most of us, but also crazy impressive.

My daughter now drives my E90 M3, and given the choice, she would of preferred the E93 vert. Trust me on that one.

Great wife you have there, wanting to see you happy. An E93 sounds like a very versatile option for many different possible scenarios including dropping the top for a cruise or date night with the wifey.

The 4 doors might make it slightly easier for others to get into the backseats (i.e. needing to push the front seats forward vs. opening another door), but the drop-top should add a lot of accessibility if you're ok with lifting and dropping your kids into the backseat or letting people jump and slide in like Dukes of Hazzard. Careful not to scratch the fenders!

Ok maybe an E90 would have been better! Enjoy it and congrats on the car and wife!

You have an awesome wife and you should enjoy the car. But if you are making this thread then it might be too late. I originally purchased a e93 and had buyers remorse about a year later. I bought a convertible because I missed my s2000 that I sold, but realized it wasn't the same. I also bought the car with intentions of keeping it for a long time and e93 just wasn't the car I wanted to grow old with. I sold it for a e92 ZCP and have been extremely happy with the decision for the last 3 years.

It's a little complicated in your situation since your wife bought it, I would just drive it and enjoy it for now. If you really want to switch it later, talk it over with her and I'm sure she'll understand.

I see what you are saying, but it isnt buyer remorse. It is gift remorse, someone gave you a gift you actually do not like or half assed what you actually like.

I had this happen to me recently for Christmas, mother in law asked me what I wanted for christmas. I told her an anthentic football jersey for my NFL team. I told her they go for $250 and if that was too much I am cool with it I will buy it myself and have her get me something else. I told her exaclty where to get it.

She bought me one of those replica jerseys that are like half stiched half fake. All not what I asked.

This is the equal to what happened to you. You want a E9X M3, but only if it was a E92 or E90. Not an E93.

Sounds like you have a keeper. Wow. If you really dont think its functional, you can always start dropping hints on how things have changed and four doors are much more preferable, then sell it and put the $ towards an e90.. but only if you get to that point. Still, very very nice gift and props to you!

I am absolutely loving my e93 M3. I have two kids, 5 and 6, and they both fit in the back with car seats. They absolutely love the car and ask me to go fast with the top down. Kids love convertibles and even though it was not my first choice in the beginning, I now think the hard top gets much more enjoyment then a bit more room and a bit more speed.

Congrats on the car and hope you and your kids enjoy it as much as my family does!

Thanks for all the great comments guys. Yes, my wife is definitely the best and couldn’t have asked for a better 40th birthday gift. With that said, for now we will continue to enjoy the E93 and create some beautiful memories as some of you have done with yours.

If you sell the Vert the wife will probably never do something like that again. She'll realize that you didn't really like the car.

I think buyers remorse is imminent. I wanted an e93 and I was talked into an e92 by friends... I'm super happy with the car but now, one part of me is like "I live in Florida and winter is coming up I wish I had a convertible" — the other part of me is like "even though I'm single, an e90 would be more practical."

First world problems, man. Get a babysitter, put the top down and take your wife for a cruise. If she has any sisters or friends that are also into buying their husbands M3s, I could be swayed from my determination of lifelong bachelorhood haha.
