Is this rod bearing noise?

Hello guys,

I have noticed this ticking noise between 0-1500 rpm range, can't hear it when above 2000+ rpm range.

Is this rod bearing noise I am hearing? (you might need to turn up the volume)

My 2011 E90 M3 has less than 40k miles, if it matters.

Can anyone verify this please?

Thank you!
Kris

I just started to get the EXACT noise... but i have a vanos problem atm.. and i heard a bad vanos can rattle.. but now seeing you have this problem can mean its rod bearings.
Try turning the wheel all the way to one side n rev it up n my ticking goes away... you should try it.

Mine will tick at idle, and do the exact same noise yours does when revved up 1-2k.
But as soon as you turn the wheels it stops.... someone please find an answer to this it's driving me insane

I had that same tick before and it still made the sound when the car was shut off. Pebble was stuck behind the brake dust shield making that ticking noise.

Rod bearing noise is generally more consistent. That seems to come and go with RPM. What you hear with a spun bearing is the piston tapping on the cylinder head so it tends to be consistent after the bearing has spun.

I have the same noise coming from my e90 m3, I got my bearings swapped and the noise is still there. Its not the bearings so you guys can relax.

by the time you can hear the bearings the engine is kaput.
Trust me, if this comes and goes don't worry. get the rod bearings serviced as soon as possible regardless, the risk is not worth spending $20k for a new motor down the road.
