How is the Jerez Black Paint?
I located a few 09 M3s, I may be interested in. Unfortunately most are black, and while not a huge fan of black cars Jerez has so much change to it I may have to look into it harder. This said, how is the quality of the paint, usual BMW orange peel? Is it impossible to keep clean and such?
The car would be JB, Black Leather, Carbon trim.

jerez owners will reply about quality of paint but in terms of look I think it is on the conservative side good without making a scene. I have seen it side by side with the jet black and I think jet black looks more radical because of it is pure black color. The jerez looks more recreational IYKWIM.

Its typical BMW orange peel, and soft paint. BUT, its way better then Jet Black IMO because it is simply better quality, and the paint is repairable when it gets swirled up, unlike Jet Black (you pretty much cant do shit about swirls, it wont come out no where near as good as Jerez Black)

I bet after its run is done there will be M3 punters asking for it w/ M3 Fxx; just as there are those asking for past ///M colours no longer available. Jet will likely always be an option. The 'petrol' blue hues in Jz = You can see some in my car (admittedly from afar) here:

no doubt Jerez is a great color. It is a matter of personal taste. But I think the non mixed jet color feels stronger and bolder on the M3 and yes it is more maintenance. By recreational I meant festive, colorfull in contrast with jet which always looks... well.. black and neutral under any light. |

The thing that gets me, is Black / Black to austere? With the JB/FR combo at least there is a bit of change going on.

Jerez Black is even more exclusive now that the two new Ms -- the X sisters -- have been let in on Silverstone and Melbourne Red paint action which leaves the M3 lineup with Jerez Black as the sole M3 exclusive color. |

I think Jerez black is a unique and great looking color. What I like is the contrast it provides; it will look black in some conditions and will definitely show off it's blue hues other times. I think it is quite similar to carbon black from the previous E46 M3 models. It is a lot of work to keep up, but that is true of any dark colored car. The fact that it is metallic makes it easier to take care of and hide swirls and such.
This is my first "black" car, and it will probably be my last. This has nothing to do with the color itself, but with the upkeep required to keep the car looking great. I like my cars to always look "show quality", and every little imperfection shows on a black car. The sparkling graphite on my last car (335i) was much easier to keep looking immaculate. I guess I'm kinda anal retentive about my cars and seeing scratches and swirls just bugs me. I know that they are still there with a lighter color, just that they are not nearly as noticeable. My next car will probably be silver/grey or white.

I have Jerez Black and love it. It is so neat to see the color change in different light. My fear was matching the paint but I just had to have my rear bumber cover painted and they matched it perfectly.

It’s a labour of love to keep Jerez clean and swirl free however the various products like Zaino and other equally good products helps make a weekly wash a bit easier. Having said that IMO Jerez looks crap in bright direct sunlight to me because you can see each and every paint imperfection easily. For me it really looks sensational in late afternoon early morning light i.e. when there’s n direct sunlight on it.

ya...being a Jet Black owner, the paint imperfections are ghastly when not taken care of, and nearly impossible to get rid of entirely. But hot damn does it look for the five minutes after a good wash!

For the 5 minutes that the car stays clean it is the nicest M3 color IMHO. Then water spots and shit make keeping this car looking good a real pain in the ass. I am too lazy for this color!! I won't get a Black car again, although I've said that before and still got the E90 in Jerez. Black looks so good clean.
If I could do it again, I would have gone with Alpine white like my E46 or Sparkling Graphite. I still don't know why they cancelled that color. It looks great and is low maintenance.

Jerez looks great as everyone here mentions. It's black, it's blue, it's both.
I haven't found the maintenance to be too bad. It is black, so every bit of dirt or spots show. I pretty much have to hand wash it every week, but it doesn't take too long. Always use high quality microfiber stuff, and wash carefully. Would I get it again? Probably, but I would probably lean towards silver if they had a non-bluish one (like titanium silver). Jerez looks great, I get lots of compliments, and I don't regret it at all, just be aware what you are getting into maint-wise. |

There are so many color facets to JB, a dark black at night, a slight purple in indirect sun, and a popping blue in direct sunlight. first thing I did was have the car power polished with a slight cut in the polish....it is absolutely beautiful now, I really couldnt be happier with the color.
White is the traditional color on the M3 it seems, JB sets it apart from the masses |

It's black, blue and even a hint of purple. If you know how to take care of a nice car and have a garage (a must) it isn't too bad to keep looking pristine.
It looks super rich without being too flashy, and it will always be the best looking M at the county club so long as you know to park it in the shade, or at least out of the direct sunlight. It looks absolutely stunning an hour before dusk. I have mine with extended black leather. Living with it and seeing how much blue (very dark blue) is in it, I might have opted for the bamboo interior. Also, in black the extended doesn't really show up. A friend has an 09 coupe in silver/extended fox red. That is a hot combo too. |

I've got a JzB E93 M3 on order, and I must say, the colour in person just looks stunning! Can't wait to drive it on the 18th! Although I'd agree the swirl marks would be hard to ignore

Both Jerez and Jet are AWESOME colors... just be aware of the maintenance, but truth be told, when you fly by the other cars, nobody has time to notice a little bit of dust on your car!!! THEY are in the dust at that time...
Good luck on your purchase!!
