My experience is the opposite--that long commutes are the best miles you can put on a car, and letting them sit around parked for extended periods is about the worst thing you can do to them.

I would have never bought my M3 if I had to use it as a commute vehicle.
I'd argue that if the difference in cost to run the two cars in question is a huge dealbreaker to someone, they probably don't have any business owning either one of them.

agreed.. I drive 60 miles a day and could care less about the cost of gas. It's a 20-30K car and performs well above that price point. I enjoy feeding it often with 93 octane.

For a commute like that I'd buy a 335D with extra to spare for deletes and a jammer.

My M sat for 9 years and it was fine. Mechanically my 328 was great, it was just fatigued.

Some folks with 328's ask the same question. Should they daily an Accord and save the 328 for weekends?

It's all relative. I sold mine b/c the area I live and work in isn't conducive for an M3 as a daily. If it had been all smooth highways, no fracking sand all over the road, no 1-ton work trucks dropping shit on the road all day, and no roads that flood when it sprinkles, I'd have probably kept it. Frequent fuel ups are a PITA, but if you live near a costco (I don't during the work week), get their Visa card and get 4% off their gas.

2008's are getting stupid cheap. Easy win as a commuter car. Just maintain it as SYT_Shadow stated and keep it stock is my recommendation until something needs replacing.

This is assuming you've fully funded your 401k, have appropriate insurance for your life and long-term care (says the guy who had both parents in long-term care at the same time); essentially have your financial life together, then the ///M car as a commuter makes sense.

You only live once. These cars are made for Texas.

I agree with Innerblue, above...it is amazing driving this car on the open highways of Texas. I drive West everyday for work and it is >90% country roads. The pics above were how I did my drive just a year ago....I was 20 miles closer, but hey what's another 40 miles a day, right?
