noob to ebay : need some help (may be a stupid question)

so i won this item and the location of the item is only one state away. however the seller only has two shipping options: 2-day and 3-day. i asked him if he can ship ground since its useless paying the extra money since ground shipping would arrive the day after it shipped. its a computer monitor to be exact so shipping for 3 day already isnt cheap. he said that he cant do that and needs the money urgent so needs to ship asap.

anyway i can back out of the buy? didn't realize i would be ripped off. (i may be at fault so dont worry i know)

Well paypal has this 21 day payment hold thing they have been stuffing down sellers throat so I think that's why the seller is insisting on the rush delivery. Have you check his previous selling activity? Technically you can't back out but you can just not pay. I think you have something like 3 strikes before they ban you. Just tell the seller that you can't complete the transaction and hopefully he/she will understand.

I don't understand. How expensive is three day shipping for a computer monitor?

He/she is probably marking up the shipping, and would make less shipping by ground.

Even so, how much more difficult is it to specify "ground" versus "2 or 3 day air" when you ship the package? You either (1) click a different bubble on the shipping screen, or (2) tell the person at the counter one versus the other.

Either way, in my mind it's painless so it shouldn't be an issue.

or he doesn't want to deal with the extra hassle. all sorts of stupid crap can come up anymore...anything from the buyer saying the auction said 2 or 3, and he shipped ground (Despite the buyer asking for this), blah blah blah

suck it up and pay for the 3 day shipping...you won the auction, you shoulda known this, just pay.

It's up to you. Either don't pay or pay but I wouldn't bother trying to negotiate ground shipping since he's already essentially said no. Unpaid Items happen all the time so don't feel too bad.

What did it say in the listing prior to the auction ending? Was ground offered then? What is the sellers feedback like?

What is he charging for shipping, too may of these idiot these days on ebay are using shipping as means to make money when the offer something cheep on ebay. I suspect that he charging $20 to $50 on shipping for a monitor and then will ship it ground anyway and pocket the extra cash.

Any good sell will ship it the way you like, the problem is he when he set up the auction he did not include ground so when you process it through Paypal it will force you to pay for the options he selected. If he choices to use Paypal to generate the shipping paper work it will ship it base on what you selected. I personally never use Paypal shipping methods since the tack on extra costs, I usually take it to the UPS store myself and pay for it right there.

Why would you bid on an item and not check what the shipping cost was ?? Shipping costs are sometimes inflated to save the seller's cost to list the item.

only 2nd day and 3rd day shipping were listed, but i assumed he would be able to do ground even though it wasnt listed. (like i said i know it was my fault)

his 2nd day shipping for the monitor is $198.57
and 3 day is $166.91

i've bought things from arizona before with ground shipping and they usually arrived the next day.

what happens if i dont pay for it?

the monitor is $780 so you guys do the math

if you don't pay, you'll get an unpaid item strike, 3 of them and you'll be banned from ebay (I don't think they ever expire).

That is a lot for shipping, I would hope that would include insurance too... as you admit though it is your fault, it definitely looks like he was trying to offset some of his ebay fees loss with a higher shipping cost

PayPal charges the seller 3% ?? No wonder the shipping costs are inflated.

well see thats the thing, brand new its $1395 plus shipping and what not. so that price compared to buying it new is somewhat relieving though it is still somewhat painful

Then I'd say that paying $946.91 is a good deal. Why would you not pay the seller ?? Just because he inflated the shipping costs ?? Sounds lame to me.

Just my .02

Edit: Is this a used monitor ??? Provide a link to the auction.
