Question about powdercoating

Hi, I curbed the crap out of my ZCP rim today... I didn't bend the wheel or anything, but a lot of paint and metal was scraped off.
So I'm thinking about powdercoating them black... do I have get the rim repaired before I can get them powdercoated?

First of all, why would you not repair if you are planning to recoat them?

Secondly since the ZCP is cast, it's harder to powdercoat. Painting would be preferable.
