Precisely. This is pretty ingenious OP. Can cars see you at night? I'd be worried but that's just the kind of person I am.

Couple small updates:

The owner of SSP is flying in next week to install their 800hp clutch pack and additional goodies.

Swapped out my Akra Evo mid-section for the GT4, car now sounds and feels as it should. Absolutely love it.

Wheels arrive next month, Vorsteiner FF in matte bronze. 19x10 front, 19x11 rear.

I'd be weary of those SSP clutch packs for the DCT's. Gintani had used SSP clutches on Sticky's and Drew's (DLSJ5) DCT M3's without success. There is yet, at least on the forums, anyone to successfully upgrade the clutch packs of these DCT's. I'd be weary to be a guinea pig unless the car belonged to a shop or vendor themselves. However, I may be wrong and they may have found a solution since then...

Not sure why upgraded clutch packs would even be necessary unless you are building the motor. No need on the bolt-on blower kits...

With gintani's track record with blowing motors, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a hand in the trans issues as well.

True, but have you heard of anyone else running these clutch packs? Oh, and AFAIK, ESS was actually the one who installed drew's SSP clutches, not gintani.... And IMO they don't have a half bad track record . If there was an actual viable option out there, I'm sure many would be all over it in a heartbeat. And I'm sure if there was a working, tested option, someone like Drew with a higher hp car would have already tried it out...

I hope I'm wrong; don't wanna see another car sit around another year and say I told you so. If you think of all the supercharged dct m3's out there (several hundred if not close to 1000), I'm sure others would have jumped on this if it was a viable upgrade or if it were needed. But fact is no one has reported that they have... Again I'd be weary especially since it's not necessary on bolt on VF620 or VF650 kit.

Maybe his clutches are already slipping and figured it's time for a new clutch?

I'm really curious if SSP fixed whatever caused the problems on Drew's tranny. As far as I know, only the BMW dealerships have the tools necessary to calibrate the DCT clutches -- as AutoLogic can't do it. If I remember correctly, the only way the BMW dealership agreed to calibrate the clutches, was if they installed them themselves. So I'm pretty sure BMW did the work on Drew's tranny, not ESS. I'm not 100% sure about that...but that's what I seem to remember.

Let me set the record straight, SSP installed the clutches in my car and the Gintani car. Gintani was not responsible for the transmission failure on their car, nor was I on my car. Having said that I took the risk and paid the price, I have no ill will toward SSP, but Richy Rich who recommended you install these clutches in the first place? With the power you are making you won't need them.

If the SSP clutch packs are the same type that myself and Gintani had installed then be prepared to buy a new DCT tranny like we did, if they have fixed the issue since then that's good news, either way best of luck.

I've been in your car Drew and at 700 wheel HP your DCT is fine.

The only reason someone would have recommended a DCT upgrade build is if the motor was also being built. Because no matter what you do a stock motor (i.e. ESS 650, Gintani Stg 2+, AA Level 3, Gintani twin turbo), you aren't going to make enough power to blow the DCT. And even on your 13-14psi LC build, the DCT is fine.

So either the DCT is already blown and out of warranty or Richie Rich is doing a 1,000 HP motor build...because otherwise the DCT build is a waste of money.

Thanks for the clarification. Did the dealer install the new tranny? Is that what I was thinking? Or was I smoking crack that day and not paying attention?

That would explain why we never heard a review of the retune on the VF kit.

Yes, that's what you were thinking, it was a few years ago! The dealer installed the new tranny with the stock clutches.
