120000 miles - 3/08 slick top single hump 6mt 220M/ZPP/ZCW build - owned since new and it has been in the family long enough to get a name, so it's finally time to make a thread about it I guess. Competition car, street car, both, neither? - enjoy Bender the bending bmw - 3500lb of human hustling cranky smelly robot

Link to some vids from its glorious past:

Weight below is full tank with trunk junk out - 3509lb (trunk junk in my car adds about 28lb) - I have since added the MFactory carbon driveshaft which knocks another ~10lb off - that was not a hard degree of difficulty job other than being old and needing a nice friend to borrow me a lift to save my poor back

Coming up: carbon on the roof (RKP roof). That’ll put dry weight somewhere in the 3390-3400 range, not so fat for a full interior in a machine that’s 40% zinc, 40% titanium, 30% iron, 40% dolomite, and 40% horseshoes

Grest stuff! And for some carbon inside to replace that wood. Carbon roof E90 with wood trim would be lolz.

I really like the wood but I have a set of the Al trim too. My first bmw had wood and I guess that’s why I think it just looks right in there. Maybe after the kids are done with their sticky hands phase the aluminum will go back in but Sycamore Anthracite is pretty awesome once you get to know it. One of the most interesting woods ever and this is still a cushy luxury car not a track car

Awesome! Glad to see an E90 that gets DRIVEN

RKP roof will be a nice weight-saving addition.

Great example of a car that's been tossed around a bit, but with maintenance, is still in great shape. Love it.

It's hit cones, curbs, shrubberies, a piece of retread, bees

Still works!

Thanks guys

I went back and forth wtih IND and know what I need to do now to get it lined up - need to give them a few weeks for their carbon shop to make it up and then a week to let the glues cure etc. to make sure job is 100% right, so I'm going to have to pump the brakes and wait for the spring to get the RKP roof done unless my windshield suddenly becomes so badly damaged it won't pass an inspection - current garage project is eating my mod money and I just blew the other money on these wheels and driveshaft and even my stupidity has its limits. Driveshaft scheduled for late next month though! Friend has lift access thankfully my garage is not ready for that quickjack and my body is not ready for that job on my back

AFter that I think I'll be done fixing what ain't broke for a while. Ha. as if.

True OG E9x guy.

Carbon roof and DS will be a nice touch!

Curious - how you are figuring 100+ lbs loss from those changes? My recollection is roof saves like 55 lbs if you have a sunroof. DS is 10 lbs savings IIRC.

I weighed the car on my scales when it was new and totally stock on 219M’s, multiples times because I’m an obsessive nerd.

Stock, it was 3636 with trunk junk out and full tank

Now, it’s 3509 with trunk junk out and a full tank.

Dry weight (less 96lb of fuel and the driveshaft and roof) will be under 3400. Full tank will obviously be more like 3485. These cars can actually track pretty close to empty without fuel starve so dry weight is maybe more relevant than it would be on other platforms, that’s the only reason I mention it. Put 20lb of fuel in it and you’re good to go for an auto cross weekend, for instance.

Roof is only worth about 14lb I can’t remever the exact number on a slick top E90, driveshaft is 11) soooo yeah. Somewhere in there.

Obviously if I really wanted to get stupid, seats could be worth another 60+ but I’m not that dumb yet. An E90M can have a full interior and AC and etc and weigh about what a stock E46M weighs, after spending an E46M3’s worth of money on it Soon I'll be out of ideas on further places to shed any significant weight (maybe 10-15lb left in various fasteners, swift spring conversion, F8x hubs) and on to waiting for the engine to soften up so I can justify moar powerrrrrr. Other than the CF roof which will look like an OEM part from all the contemporary and more recent M's, I have no interest in doing any carbon hood/trunklids as the only things on the market are too aftermarket-looking for my taste

The front bumper cover is turning into one of those art pieces that the artist needs to leave out in the elements for 10 years before you really see what he was going for, lol. It’s like, 90% sand and rock chips and the other 10% is curb rubs and cone marks that wouldn’t rub off. I think there might still be some clean paint under the kidney grilles

Spur of the moment track sessions during a race weekend - lots to love about these cars on track as we all know but damn, I mean, this one sure is good. Even with tame pads and the conti ECS street tires it was a riot. Contis are surprisingly decent on track for a true street tire!

Scales are a funny thing. I never really expect different scales to do better than within 50lb of each other on different days locations etc. but this surprised me. Fuel light on my car is coded for about 3 gallons left. Weighed after a session when the light came on as I came off the track, for time trial classing to make sure my power to weight isn’t below 6lb/hp as if and It was 3609 with my 195lbs of old ass in it, which matches up pretty well with mine at home surprisingly.

Going back and forth between the M3 and the spec wrecker is uh...interesting

Mini-update

125,000 miles.

Back on the PS4S/220M setup for pothole/rain/inspection season with my Contis now down to 4/32" and I really, really don't want to jack up those TA16's on a pothole because they're amazing wheels.

Installed LCI center console trim and new cupholders/trim as the soft-touch on those was getting janky and I have always wanted the slightly larger and more practical-shaped LCI center console bucket thingie. Hit self in face with shift knob. Boo. It self-uninstalled from the console trim and unplugged itself though. Win!

Can't get my pic of this to load but you all know what it looks like, it's a hole. Did the OEM sunglass tray which saved about 100 grams because no power outlet/cig lighter/ashtray insert

And my carbon roof appointment is made for this summer. Woop. Celebrating the car's 12th bday and my 10th year owning it (it sat on a dealer's lot, brand new, for almost 18 months after it arrived from Germany)

The MFactory driveshaft is the business. I don't even notice it except when I occasionally remember how much windup used to be in the drivetrain, most of that is just gone.

Great spec, and good for u fully enjoy it all these years. Love the wheels.
I'm a big fan of the steel slick top. Wouldn't change it out if mine unless it had a sunroof. Seems like your excited for it though so enjoy.
Keep the pics coming.
