Ugh...I think I broke it! Limp Mode

So just finished the passenger side valve cover gasket replacement and diagnosing a cylinder 2 misfire (turned out to be a mildly fouled plug). Put everything back together and car is now in "limp mode".

Am getting the following codes from Carly:
VANOS control inlet Bank 1 00271A
VANOS control exhaust bank 1 00271B

Instead of getting to watch football today am going to take the plenum bank off and see if maybe I knocked one of the harnesses around or something obvious.

- Would appreciate any other ideas on the source of the error codes, please.
- Also, can car idle for a few minutes without plenum? Besides not having filtered air, other issues? Am looking for some short cuts to help diagnose...

Car is '09, 89k miles, daily driver, well maintained. Throttle actuators changed at 3k and 31k (so may be due to change again...grrr!).
