I was given an M3 test drive at the Sonnen dealer in San Rafael without any issues. You could try there.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?
That is a joke, the best way to sell an M3 is to say, here take the keys, we'll work out the numbers when you get back.

The car will sell itself, a true salesman would have sold you a car, even if you were just browsing. Some people need to remember the ABCs

Go somewhere else.

I was contemplating between 6M and DCT and my dealer let me test drive a brand new e90 with DCT and a brand new E92 with 6M....

Not letting you test drive a used 08, -give me a break.

apparently, the best way for that particular salesman is to just rev the crap out of the car at startup to let me hear the engine and exhaust.

Same thing happened to me..but it was a new M3...they dont let just anyone test drive the M cars on a whim..only after you sit and agree numbers and sometimes even make a downpayment or sign..

It makes sense to me...otherwise everyone would just come into the dealership for the hell of it and take them for a spin and rack miles up on it.

The guy is doing you a favor. He is telling you "yes I am a dick and will treat you like sh*t". Thank him and find someone else. That's what I did.

I was going to call the sales advisor i purchased my Z4 from, but I think i'm done with that dealership as a whole.

I remember when I was shopping for my M3 last year, I wanted to go check out the ISF (I know, I know...) just to see if I'd be missing out on anything. The guy at Lexus was an a**hole from the start, when I brought up wanting to test drive the ISF he said the same thing, 'Only serious buyers are allowed to test drive it." I was 26 years old last year at the time but I always get mistaken for an 18 year old. He also kept trash talking the M3, saying it isn't as reliable because it is 'turbocharged'. They definitely discriminate, but I guess I can't blame them too much. The funny thing is that the BMW salesman was very nice and let me test drive the M3 without hesitation. OH, I also forgot to mention that I drove up in my 2000 honda civic (still my daily driver).

I tried test driving the new 5.0 mustang and the sales guy was such an ass. If you see a guy in his 20's pull up in a newer BMW you know you could afford it, He said " you cant afford this car at your age their is no WAY!". he also said " These new 5.0's are a limited production vehicle"

I winded up telling him to " have a nice day " in my own words and walked out. I went on the mustang forums and bashed the dealership. 2 days later the manager at the dealership called me to apologize and offered a test drive of the Gt500 and 5.0 which i declined.

All in all, At the end of the day you are immediately profiled the second your feet hit their the dealerships property.

LOL 5.0 limited edition!!!

It's a freaking mustang.

biggest joke was when I went into a mitsubishi dealership about 4 years ago wanting to test drive the evo.

"we need to do a credit check before we allow anyone to test drive."

I walked out.

Wow I hate this ... I work at a dealership in NJ and all of our sales guys are really cool. I couldn't really tell you what their test drive policy as I am in the service department, but if I were in your shoes I'd complain to the manager ... I hate age discrimination.

I'm 26 and was dressed in a T-shirt and jeans and had 0 problems getting a test drive when i bought mine. I did have an 08 328 at the time and said I wanted to upgrade. The dealership is small but in an affluent town. The salesman was nice and didn't treat me like a kid. After 5 minutes of driving I bought the car. I know I am young, but I hate being treated that way by sales people. I actually thought I got a pretty good deal when I bought my 2010 e92 a couple months ago.

I was 18 when I got my M3 and they literally let me test drive it within 10 minutes of walking in the door. I can't believe they didn't let you. What a joke.

I have similar situation, but sales guy told me "Test drive by M3 is only available with my boss".
All in all, that M3 condition: 2011 / E92 / Fire Orange / DCT / ZCP / (two months age/12.000km that time) / BLK Novillo / GTS steering wheel / black rims.
