Here's my oil report from my 98k mile 2005 M3. I'd estimate there is a total of 3500 or so miles on the oil including 9 track days, driving to/from the track, and a little bit of weekend driving.
The sample was taken and sent off immediately and was taken mid-drain so it should be a "good" sample. The lead levels are very disconcerting and the same old rod bearing thing. The copper has me worried; is that the bearing as well or is that chain guides or something else in the top end? I have one more track day scheduled. Is this the kind of thing where I should skip that or am I safe (as safe as a track day ever is)? Is there any value in pulling another sample right after my track day (less than 1000 total miles on the oil) just to confirm my sample wasn't jacked somehow? Edit: As I think about it more, the less I think one more day would do in my motor and it's a risk I'd be willing to take with my (and my motors) safety. But what I'm not sure I want to do is risk the safety of others on the track. If the bearing were to spin I'd risk throwing something thru the block and dropping oil on the track. Someone went off due to that at our last event and I'm not really willing to risk others safety when I know this is a possible result. Still would welcome input but I'm leaning towards calling it a season. |
