I plan on going in with an open mind and not being brand specific. I am open to anything that will help. More so looking at distance / forgiveness.

I bet hitting the new irons felt night and day difference to your Ping i3's!
Took me about an hour and 15, closer to an hour and 30 all in. The appointment was for 90 minutes.

Thanks for that. I would want it to be atleast an hour. I don't think I could make a decision within 30mins as there are way to many choices and combos to go through.

When do the new clubs come in?

Got them yesterday!

I should also caveat - the 90 minute appointment is for irons only. They (PGA Tour Superstore) has appointments for irons, long irons, driver, or whole bag (and maybe one for putter?). I think the whole bag appointment is 2.5 hours but, IMO, that's too much going on. I've got a driver I pretty much like, my irons were nowhere and my long irons / hybrids / fairway woods were nowhere. I chose to start with irons and will schedule another fitting for long irons again soon. Now that I know the fitter, I feel like we can make some good progress next time.

Those are great looking!!

Is that an Ask Echo bag? If so, how do you like it? I am in need of a new one as mine is ripping.

I have been fitted for driver, hybrids and wedges. So, I am good in those departments!

My irons, I believe 60mins is enough time for irons. Did you try and hit them with a graphite shaft? I would get 5i-PW as I took out my 3i and 4i in place of my 4H.

Driver: TaylorMade Qi10 Max 9* with x-stiff shaft, delofted to 8.2*
Hybrid: TaylorMade Qi35: 2H which can be adjusted to 3H with x-stiff shaft. 4H stiff shaft and 7H stiff shaft.
Wedges: Cleveland RTX6: 52*, 56*, 60*

When do you plan on using them for the first time? Any tee times set up soon?

It is a Ogio Silencer hybrid bag. Haven't had it out to the course. I hope to get out later this month but going to be tied up through the middle of August. So far in my family room and garage it's great! LOL. Be waiting to see how it works on course.

I did not hit graphite shafts. Based on my physiology and swing speed, I ended up with a stiff steel shaft. I did ask but the fitter said he wouldn't recommend for me. My swing speed, IIRC, was around 85-90 mph. I hit regular steel shafts first, and then stiff. He played around with shafts before we worked on actual clubheads.

Oh nice! I see it now on the bag. I will check them out and see what they have.

I need to do a little more research on graphite shafts but I think stiff steel shafts are the way to go.

How did you hit your old pings? Were you able to hit them straight or did they veer off to the left and right and had zero forgiveness?

Just got home from 2nd Swing golf store. Tried a few 7 woods. Man they do not go anywhere. Carry 175 roll out 190. Maybe I don't do well in the store cause I hit a 5 iron that far.

Needless to say I did not buy one.

That's a bummer. Which ones did you hit?

I hit my 4H about those distances..been consistent around 185-195 recently. But with a little more power, I can get it up to 220 yards.

I heard the 7 wood is all the craze right now since Scottie is rocking one and doing so well. Never thought of getting a wood...hence why I have 3 separate hybrids! lol

Yeah these were all used. And maybe they were used because they were crap. I think I hit the Ping G440 and one other brand. Could be they had crap shafts on them. That 2nd swing store is HUGE but very few used 7 woods.

Tomorrow I see my osteo doc to find out what the MRI exposed in my hip. And he just so happens to share a parking lot with a (drum roll) PGASuperstore.

Well, might as well look again.

Well then..when one door closes another one opens up perfectly! I wish we had a superstore here!

Best of luck with the doc appointment!

Hopefully you are able to hit a lot more different brands and get it dialed in!

Home from the doc and PGAsuperstore.

Good news only need a cortisone shot for the hip. We think.

Found a 7 wood. Used XXIO on a really light shaft. Seems like I don't hit it as far as my 3H but then I never seem to hit anything in the store. I know I average drives about 230-250 in the real world and in the store always less. Whatever.

I'll try the 7 wood when next I play which I think is around the 19th.

That is good news! How was the shot?

Hmmm..never heard of XXIO before. Have a picture of the 7 wood?

You know what, it is funny you say that and I was actually thinking the same thing on the course last night.

I was hitting my 2/3H club, 4H, 7H, and 7i-9i a lot further than I did when I went to the golf sim before my round yesterday. I think I need to skip the golf sim and just go hit on the grass with a Trackman to get more consistent results.

My hybrid shots were pure last night! Such a great feeling!

I play again tomorrow morning at 7:30am. We are flying to Orlando for a family vacation and I am able to sneak out to play a quick 18 early tomorrow morning. Can't wait!

No shot yet. Scheduled for the 18th but having conflict with the wife's schedule and we only have one car. Thinking I might buy a cheap second car to resolve these issues. Thinking about an older 6 cylinder 3 series.

XXIO is a higher end brand I think caters more towards the senior golfer. When I was trying clubs I really didn't care about brand just feel. And I guess I'll learn the distance I hit it on the course.

This is funny to me just because of how everyone else swears up and down that the stores "juice" their sims by sneakily adjusting altitude or other tweaks...

...despite it being all set to default every time I've gone in. I also tend to bring 1 of my own clubs for reference though so that I know how I'm hitting / swinging relative to my average. I think it's more just hitting off of nicer / fresher mats than anything else though, since most people are more used to hitting off of beat up range mats or grass.

Yeah I think in the past the juiced the machines. I was in one time and hitting a 5i. The machine was saying 220 carry and 240 rollout. Uh huh. I believe it.

Hey all! Played this morning at our resort in Orlando, FL. Weather was damn near perfect!Had a 7:30am tee time (first tee time for the day). Was supposed to be me and 2 other guys but they were running late and the starter told me to go on ahead and so I did.

Played pretty damn well! I decided not to take my clubs last min and I am glad I didn’t. I was able to rent a brand new set of Ping G440 everything. Driver, 3 wood, hybrid, 4i-Pw. Let me just say this..holy smokes what a huge difference brand new technology makes when hitting that little ball around compared to my 2001 Callaway Big Bertha irons. I was very excited hitting them and even my not so good contact made the ball fly straight.

I have never hit a 3 wood before and damn did I smoke that thing! New fav club! Might look at the TaylorMade Qi35 3 wood and trade in my 2H.

Shot a respectable 93, could have been lower but that is decent for me as my wedge game still added a bunch of strokes.

Ping G440 is at the top of my list as it’s the only other irons I have hit than mine.

What a great morning! Woooooo

Sounds like an eye opening experience. Thinking you NEED to get fitted for more modern clubs. And nothing wrong with pings IMO.

It really was. I was hoping it would be to be honest. I felt more comfortable playing the Ping irons than I did my own. The feel, sound, I didn't have to choke up 1-2inches. I was very pleased with my performance of the irons!

Once I do get fitted. I will more than likely get 5i - PW. I don't need a 3i-4i as I love my 4H.

Finally back from vacation!

Sounds good to me, let me know when you start it and I will send it to my family so they can donate to it! lol!

The pictures really don't do the course justice! It was very pretty out and the weather was damn near ideal for middle of August in Florida.

Got the approval from the wife to get new clubs! lol. We were just relaxing in the pool after I got done playing golf and was telling her about it. She just flat out says, "if you want to get new irons, just do it. You deserve it!"

I was like...say no more! lol! But I told her my plan this off season to get fitted the right way.

We went to the PGA Superstore Saturday night and she said it's just like a TJ Maxx..nothing special. Haha..I just laughed at her. Well, granted, 90% of the store was for clothing. So, I can see her point!

Had my second to the last golf league night last night and it was 3 club night.

So I took with me my 4H, 9i and putter. I thought it was a good choice as I was able to use my 4H on the longer holes if needed.

I used my 9i as my wedge and let me just say, I will be playing with that more so around the green than my actual wedges. I was able to do bump in runs and get my ball on the greens without shanking it! Very pleased.

I could definitely tell a difference from playing with the Ping G440 9i and mine last night. I have to put a lot more effort and swing speed to get close to the distance to what I was hitting with the Ping.

On Monday, the 18th, I play in my companies golf outing and I am looking forward to it! Should be a fun time and the group I put together are some great guys who can actually play pretty damn well...we may have a shot at winning it...maybe.

Have you had the chance to hit the new irons yet? If so, what are your thoughts?

What type of shaft did you go with?

Thanks!

Humbly suggesting you remove the shaft labels when you unwrap them. Too many people leave them on like they’re leaving the tag on their clothes.
