1/4 mile 3.62 is 1/10th faster, 60-120 3.15 is 2/10ths faster, 60-130 3.62 is .5/10th's faster. Overall it's really close.

It's not the time of the shift that is important, it's that with the 3.62 gears you are shifting into the next gear 15% sooner, during that time the car with the stock gears is putting more torque to the ground because it is still in the lower gear.

I'm not saying it isn't a good mod, obviously the improved feeling of torque is a big plus. I just wouldn't expect any actual increase in performance.
but how does your last sentence square with your first one? you say the 3.62 is 15% faster but then you say i wouldn't expect any actual increase in performance.

He was referring to only the acceleration runs started in a gear that is unnecessarily too tall for that particular pull. For example... If 3.15 and 3.62. Start in 5th gear at 60mph... The 3.62 car, as it should would have a 15% advantage. But in any "right" gear runs its a wash... i.e. the 3.62 car would fare better in a shiftless passing maneuver but if both cars downshift there is no advantage.

I'd be curious to know what the MPG difference is... I meant... Stock it sucks ass, but just curious how much worse is it. What have you seen?

i have never reallly paid to much attention to the mpg of this car, it really misses the point. i do 14.5 mpg. that's it. i will be more civil this weekend as i am taking my sis in law out to the beach so will re check. but i have no "prior" to go on.

Sounds like a mod I need to do and I'm leaning towards the 3.45 just for some added torque and not a huge issue top speed and hopefully help my 1/4 mile times overs stock.

There is no point in putting it on a dyno since a diff will not change the power output.

I went back and forth too..all the debate over how it not faster etc etc...well I dont give a crap about the numbers...all i care about is my butt dyno....and I must say I absolutely love it...lets face it, from 0-15 in first gear the 328 feels faster...its a blast...also my gas mileage is better because I dont feel the need to rev it up all the time to get the torque rush...some of us just love torque....and the m3 lacks it

With the 3.62 or 3.45, where do you feel the difference? Is it down low, say under 3k or in the midrange between 3k and 5k? Would that show on a dyno?
