[DCT] Is shifting to 1st on the move okay?

Sometimes when making turns or changing lanes around town, I want to punch the car and get the best possible acceleration. In manual cars I think it is not recommended to shift to 1st while moving. Is it okay to do so in DCT? It seems like the car does a good job of rev matching and seems to handle the tranny load fine. Without shifting to 1st the acceleration is a bit sluggish since you're at low RPM's. Thoughts??

The only reason it's not good on 6MTs is because it's very hard to match revs and is excess stress on the synchros. Double clutching alleviates that a little, but it's still not recommended.

As for DCT, given that everything is electronically calculated with computer precision...I think it should be fine IMO.

Shift to what you like, when you like.
If it should not be done, there will be signs, like a balky shifter, grinding, etc.

With a DCT, it would ignore any "bad" shifts...

If it wasn't ok, it wouldn't do it. It's more or less idiot proof.

Absolutely! First gear is the right ratio to be in if you are accelerating from any speed below, say 30mph. Above 30mph (ish) and you are probably close enough to redline that you are going to have a tough time pulling the upshift paddle fast enough to get it to second before you hit the limiter.

As for manuals and first gear, I shift to 1st at speed all the time there too, and not a single transmission issue as a result. As note above, people recommend against it mainly because it is a bit tricky to get it right.
