looks unreal...sounds unreal, you should go to the Tudor race next year and experience it in person...your whole body shakes when it drives by.

Amazing post!
The engine is the only reason I will never get the M4... Would be cool to have new but not at the cost of having fun and enjoying the engine sound of the S65

Thanks OP.
Anyone know if they're running a flat plane crank?

^Yes, the P65 uses a BMW Motorsport-derived flat plane crankshaft with revised firing order of 1-8-3-6-4-5-2-7.

The S65 has a firing order of 1-5-4-8-7-2-6-3, and uses a cross plane crankshaft.

The P65 bore and stroke are the same as the S65 production engine (92.0 x 75.2) for a total displacement of 3999.2 cc. The engine also uses the same double vanos and throttle by wire systems as the S65.

The exhaust system is provided by BMW Motorsport, and uses a small muffler on each side to meet the old ALMS sound pressure rules (no more than 112 dbA measured 15 meters from the edge of the track). The headers and exhaust system are customized for the GT2 car. (proprietary info, no details)

The P65 engine sounds unique due the combination of a flat plane crank, revised firing order of the cylinders, and the exhaust modifications.

if you guys have a chance, go see a Tudor race this year and watch the Z4 GTE's P65B44 in action.

The sound the engine makes is unreal and shakes your whole body when the car flys by.

I went to the 2013 Tudor race at COTA and heard the turner team and sahlen team s65s and decided I had to have one. Although I believe turners gts cars were derived from s62, the gt class were s65 (maybe p65s?).

What a fantastic motor.

Agree 100%. I got to go into the Turner pits and team trailer area in September 14 and got to take a ton of pictures. Hopefully they keep using the motor and gt4 for a few more years.

Turner cars won't be running full season this year in Tudor (they ran 24-hrs Daytona, and might run the endurance-only schedule), but you can still catch the RLL Z4 GTE cars run the S65 derivative...

so proud of this motor.
This is what you call a true race inspired motor, and one benchmark engine BMW M has produced
