Foxwell NT520 is a good value at about $150, with free bmw specific module upon registering online.

My problem with Carly is they moved to a subscription model and I think it’s like $80 a year.

I have had the launch x431 easy diag. hardware was around 120.00 + bmw software was like 60.00 one time fee...purchased it about 5yrs ago and love it. It can read out all modules, clear faults, status requests, component activation, it can even code certain modules.

Ouch, yes that's true. Bought mine prior to their new "biz model" so tend to forget about that.

As did I. No way in hell I would pay for Carly now that it is a subscription model. Like paying a fee to own your hammer. Now, if they release a new feature that I want/need, then pay to play. Key word is want/need. Don't charge me just for the pleasure of having to learn a new interface when your code monkeys decide to get all graphical and shit...

True, just noted the other day that there in fact is a new user interface! Haven't used it enough to decide whether its better or no - thought the previous worked just fine - you?

Yup, the old interface was just fine. The new one is a cumbersome overlay that looks pretty and offers nothing of value IMHO.

I prefer function over form. Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS).

Get Bavian Technic and call it a day. It's probably as close to the BMW tools capabilities and functions as you'll find.

I use this one:https://amzn.to/31rh6uP

Reads all modules on e9x and my other cars.
I can clear abs and srs codes easily.

I usually reach for this before trying INPA/ISTA for more complex stuff.

Why not just setup INPA/NCSExpert on a laptop using Mike’s BMW Tools or equivalent? Lots of info in the forums. Gets you all the memory read/reset for modules plus the ability to code and change VO.
