How to tighten header bolts?

Hello,

Sorry, originally posted in diy, but maybe the general group has further feedback. I have a leak around the headers of the car (mainly drivers side)

Anybody have experience tightening ther header jolts in the car? Local shop quoted $1700 to replace the gaskets, but hoping to try tightening first.

Any chance to remove the air box, remove the heat shield and then tighten the header bolts from above? Or will this require the subframe drop. Thanks!

most 75% of the bolts u can get from the top just have to remove the three bolts holding the heat shield, the rest from lowering subframe, ps the intake manifold does not need to come off. u can do this in the garage without lift

Be very careful NOT to over torque! Also start in middle and go out to ends in a crossing pattern.

Likely gasket failure unless your exhaust manifolds have been removed before.

Most of it is reached from the bottom and side. You might be able to reach a few top ones but it's easier to get them from the side.

To get access you'll need to remove the head shields.

Had the engine replaced prior, with the engine having the headers connected when it arrived. I’m sure the shop who installed it didnt check the header bolts, although they probably should have as they were subjected to shipment forces on a crate attached.

Thank you all for the feedback! I’ll see if I can remove the heat shield from the top and go from there with a mix of extensions/adapters.
