Are These Prices Crazy
Just left the shop and was quoted what I listed below. Seems extreme but would like some input from people that know better than me. As you can all see $3500 seems extreme for an 08 with 36k miles. Thank you!
Replace & Register Battery - $441.50 Missing Cable Hangar Front Bumper & 5 Screws - $96 Replace Transmission Oil Pan & Reseal - $653.42 Replace Trans Cooler Line Block Seal - $486.00 Oil Change - $220.00 Power Steering Pump Replacement - $1384.32 |

It does not surprise me that an 11 year old car needs any of those things. BMW parts are expensive, the cars are complicated, and those who work on them want to make a good living. Labor is a big variable. You might pay $100 per hour in some areas and $200 in others, and I’d guess there is a day of labor in this work.

It would help if you included the hourly rate of the shop. The price of the hanger and bolts may seem high, but if they charge a minimum labor time, it would make sense. The 220 for oil change is a typical shop charge. One can spend ~&120 + just for oil and filter.
I recently had my alternator replaced by an Indy shop. They would only use OEM electrical parts. They charged for diagnostic time to verify it was the alternator. In the end it was $1000. So the power steering pump charge doesn't seem out of line, other than there aren't many posts of them having issues. |

OEM equivalent battery can be had for half that price (and is easy to install).. oil change is an easy DIY at $110 as well. I'm not familiar with the extent of the other stuff on your list.

I would find a shop that you can build a relationship with and focus less on the cost of the service. You can’t put a price on having a trustworthy shop service your M. I recently had my rod bearings and some other things replaced on my M3 and it was a worry free experience because they worked on my F80 before I swapped it for my E92. BMWs aren’t cheap and you want the right techs working on your M.
