do you run anti-rattle clips on track
my bbk came with anti-rattle clips which i installed, but they recommend not using them on track:
Some of our customers have been running the anti-rattle clips on track and so far we haven't come across any issues. However, we would recommend using the pad retainer tube for track to ensure the pads move freely under extreme track conditions. what do people do? these appear to be the same design as the ap racing ones... https://paragonbrakes.com/anti-rattl...9661-calipers/

They just put down pressure on the pads so they're not... rattling around in there. This could cause a minor amount of dragging so they don't recommend it on track so you're not lightly dragging your track pads on the rotors at high speed.
Will it matter either way? Probably not. |

doesn't make any sense... the clips don't restrict movement in a negative way.
you'll be fine either way regardless. just know they'll clack on occasion and thats normal.

I remember the first time I ran track pads on the OE brakes with no clips. Clack - clack - clack...WTF is that?

Went underneath to check, couldn’t find anything obvious. Sat in the garage and cried to myself “All I did was change brake pads…WTF?’” https://m.youtube.com/shorts/T4467OXzGbU

OE brakes and no clips? Thought the clips are literally integral to how they work.
There is play in the slider mechanism for any sliding caliper. I'd expect unequal contact on the disc face and wouldn't be surprised if inner rings formed. On monoblocs, do away with them.

I run the anti-rattle clips on my AP9660 calipers up front without any noticeable issue.

It's probably not nearly as much flex as you'd think. The slide pins have very little load on them. I did them almost purely for reliability as I was worried about melting the rubber.

wait, aren't the slide pins what secure the caliper to the wheel hub? do you mean very little longitudinal load?

Think about how small those pins are and how much force the rotor imparts on the pads. If 1/1000th of that load went into the pins they would immediately sheer off. |

EDIT: Just realized you said bracket to caliper. There isn't really a contact point between those two. The load goes directly from the pads to the bracket. The caliper is not involved in it at all other than squeezing the pads. Last edited by amg6975; 10-02-2023 at 09:40 AM.. |
