Because they made an $80K car that can be defeated with a $1000 scan tool?

That su*#s. Sick to my stomach seeing and hearing stories like this!

On to your next car. I am not a big fan of Mercs, but that c63 AMG is a frickin' beast. A friend of mine has one and I can attest from first hand experience that the amount of torque in that car is outrageous. Great choice.

Straight off the lot . . . and right into the chop shop.

Just out of curiosity, where did this happen? These guys look strangely comfortable doing this - they are very much acting like they're on their "home turf" - were you in a bad area of town?

It sucks that you had to watch this. It' a bizarre example, I know, but I'm guessing that learning about someone banging your wife is probably hell enough - having to watch the actual act on video, however, would be a different kettle of fish entirely.

In any event - shit happens. It's a mechanical object - 1000s roll off the production line every year. Try not to get too down over it. Life goes on. Glad to hear that you have the C63 queued up. Should be a lot of fun!

Anyone with the right tools or a tow truck can steal a car.

^ but it shouldn't be as easy as connecting to the obd2 port and pairing your key with the car. The thief, if he doesn't damage the car when trying to get in, shouldn't be able to drive off as if it's his own with a key fob.

Same here.
So according to the OP's logic, every BMWs being stolen is all BMW's fault?

hey guys,

sorry for the lack of response, been obviously a little busy lol. I actually got a few more CCTV clips of the night before, showing one hooded male checking out the car with what looks like either a torch or some sort of electronic device by the drivers side window. I believe the VIN Chassis number is imprinted on the window - and was thinking if theres a possibility of scanning the chassis number and recreating a key. Hence them getting into my car within 5 seconds, and getting in undetected.

I suppose at the end of the day, if a pro thief wants your car, they are gonna get it!! Was reading a few articles about lots of stolen UK cars getting shipped to Africa - makes you wander on what goes down in the criminal underworld!

Appreciate all the messages!!

I'm sorry for your loss OP. We just need one vigilante to wait in a van next to his M and shoot all of them as they try and push his car away.

sorry about the loss... but i got two questions:

1) why was it so easy for them to open your door ???
the video was like a few minutes long, it took him barely 5 seconds to enter your car...

why are keys necessary anymore ??

2) knowing that kind of problem...
why didn't you block the bmw behind the two vans you have instead of showing/show-casing your car to your neighbor... why is one of the vans tucked nicely in between your house and the "transit" shouldn't that spot be for the M3 ??

just saying... But sorry about your loss... but it seems you will get a nice replacement so who cares right ?

Sorry that happened to you.. Painful to watch them even getting in a car that isn't theirs.

Everyone that has an M3 should invest in installing an alarm system. I'm sure those guys would have ran if the alarm was going off the whole time.

You can get an alarm and coding which stops the alarm from being disarmed with anything but the key. In factory form if you are able to turn the lock cylinder in the door, it actually deactivates the alarm too. So by having it programmed to go off regardless, you add another level of potential protection.

And don't get a C63 - you'll regret it! Get another M3

damn that is horrible.... and actually pretty freaking scary.

I remember when I was younger my brother's DC2 GSR was almost stolen in the parking lot of a community college. He came back to his car and it was sitting there with the door open and the car running... The only thing that saved his car from being taken away was his AutoLock...
