Has anyone traded in their M3 for a Sports/Luxury SUV?

I've been driving a F15 X5 50i the past couple of days while getting something fixed on the M3. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm really enjoying driving this thing. It's got a ton of power and torque but is so comfortable to drive. It has a ton of features the M3 doesn't have and is such a joy to drive every day.

Living in the North East, it's nice having a SUV. I haven't had issues with snow tires on my M3 but also don't really drive it in deep snow. The more I drive the X5 the more I'm thinking about maybe trading in the M for a Sports/Luxury SUV. I always talk myself out of it because when I see another e9x M3 on the road it still turns my head and I know I will regret selling it down the road.

Just want to see if anyone has crossed that bridge and if they regret or are happy with their decision. I would love to add a X5 to the M3 but unfortunately that will not be financially possible at this time. I would most likely look at X5/6's and possibly a few Benz models. Any thoughts?

Could never have the big boat of a car as my ONLY car, but sure it would be great to have an X car in addition to the M!

You need to have another car next to M3.

I wouldn't voluntarily trade my M3 for any type of crossover or SUV. In a situation where I had to, a Macan GTS or Turbo would be the best option. Still makes no sense to me they don't sell the m135/m140 in the USA as they have all the practicality of a hatch but still provide the thrills.

Na'll... too many pros of keeping the s65. But i can understand where you're coming from as you live in a environment were a SUV makes more sense!

Would it hurt to have both?

When I think about how long it took for me to find my E92 M3....I dont see selling/trading it in at all.....adding an X next to the M would be more practical...maybe consider lowering your price point. imo

Haha thanks guys, I just wanted some reassurance that I would definitely regret getting rid of the e92 for a SUV. I am going to enjoy the hell out of the X5 until I get my car back though!

A sporty SUV like an X5 will never drive like your M3, especially in regards to handling, but they can be a ton of fun if configured properly. You have a service loaner X5...I don't know how it's configured but 99% certain it doesn't have the optional $3900 Dynamic Handling Package (DHP) which would improve the handling/driving experience, exponentially.

I have both an E70 50i and E90 M3 - it's fun having both in the garage! Very different driving experiences. The TT V8 in the X5 is a beast of a motor, way more torque than the S65. The F15 50i that you're driving has 185 foot/lbs of torque advantage over the S65. Sure the X5 is heavier but the S65 feels weak at lower RPM's compared to N63, not to mention the S63 in the X5M. And of course you can tune that N63 very easily with HP well into the 500's.

Try driving an X5M. You might not miss your M3 as much as you think

We have an X5M next to our M3. For all around driving, the X5M feels sharper in many ways. and far more powerful. Bang for the buck, I cannot imagine a better combination.

Well I didn't trade it in, it was totaled, but I picked up a Jeep Grand Cherokee yesterday. Pleasantly surprised at how well it does just about everything I need.

Now I just need to find another fun car for the Jeep to tow...

Part of the reason I picked up an E38 740i msport to drive daily. I park in parking garages and would be worried about the car everyday. The E38 is big, drives nice, comfortable and has very nice curb appeal. Certainly no X5 but I wasn't feeling an additional $500 car payment right now. Once the E90 is paid off, Ill add an X4/5/6M for sure. Or maybe a Macan, just depends on what the wife gets next.

For work, I got a 2018 V8 Grand Cherokee Limited and was actually very pleasantly surprised. Driving the M3 on the weekends but no way the jeep could replace it if I only had to have one. I could always use an X6M but that's down the road.

Yep. We're both pretty stoked over our GC.

My daily is also a 2018 V8 Grand Cherokee but if I could afford to sell both cars and get a new X5 M I probably would.

After having the V8 in the M3 I could no way go back to something other than a V8....

I have a 2012 X5 35i
Bilstein B12 suspension
360hp tune
paddle shifters retrofitted
sport package with 20" wheels (275/315 tires with Conti ECS tires for summer)

It can drive fast but I never drive it fast in twisty roads. It is boring as hell. I hate daily driving it and will soon buy a fourth car so I don't have to daily drive it.
Was originally going to buy an X5M. Drove one back to back with the E92 and they are similar speeds but the X5M never enticed me to drive fast or sportily.

I had ***much*** more fun in a POS 330i loaner (xdrive, auto, all season tires) I had last week than in the X5.

Sounds like you need an E90 non-M for DD duty

What I really want is a third M

Either an E93 so I have the three body styles or an E90/E92 is it will serve as a secondary track car.
The E92 is too special to go to the track so often so it will be retired from track duty and used occasionally when we aren't in winter.
The E90 is the primary track car

The additional car would be a daily driver for winter and would go into 'track mode' (seats, etc) in summer and daily driver for winter.

If it weren't for my E90 grenading I'd be really close to pulling the trigger but alas, the repair will cost as much as a third M3...

A MCS manual/228i manual would also work, but I know I'll spend all my time trying to turn it into an M car. We'll see what happens
