Broken Pressure Plate Mounts
Hi guys,
I had a connecting rod failure which led to my engine being replaced under the extended warranty. (probably due the low rod bearing tolerances) see:http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=856441 The M3 has 107,000 km. So since everything was pulled apart, the clutch and flywheel was inspected. The flywheel is good to go another round, but the clutch was not. The clutch has some wear, but I guess it's regular wear from 107k km of sporty driving. (I do not ride the clutch or do clutch dumps starts.) The real shocker was the cracked pressure plate mounting plate!!!! It's cracked all around. I had a problem with the clutch pedal for a short while see threads: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=772462 http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=826533 Is that normal? should it be covered under warranty? I think I remember a thread about something similar but I can't find it! Here are some pics of the whole thing engine, clutch disk and broken pressure plate mounting plate, and of course the flywheel. The engine the has the intake butterflies is the new one on the pics that have them side by side, they had already started changing over some stuff. More to come!

I know it comes as a package, but is it a part that's supposed to break like that, if not, I'm thinking it should be covered under warranty.

here's some more pics of the state of things!
The new engine and clutch are ready to go, but BMW has changed the flywheel design in 2011 so this means cars made before have to have a flywheel change with the clutch.

Well the engine is up and running good!
The only trouble is that the suspension table bearings have seized and the power steering pump has stopped working! Of course it's also on Back Order! guess I'll have to wait some more
