How much should it cost to mount and balance all 4 tires
Hi,
If you have recently swapped your tires on your car, how long did it take and how much were you charged? My BMW dealership is telling me that it takes up to 3 hours (@$130/hr labor rate). Sounds steep... Thank you for your input! |

Some tire shops charge as little as $20 a tire mounted and balanced. Not sure why it would take three hours to put tires on a car unless they're doing an alignment as well. I had a tire replaced under warranty on my X5 and the dealer only charged me $38 for the labor to do it, just for reference.

Most chained tire places charge $12-$40 per tire for mounting and balance depending on if you purchase from them or bring your own. And most often that price includes lifetime balance and rotation for free and in some cases road hazard protection.

For what it's worth, I've got a local chain store I trust, and a local race shop I trust, and it's nice to have two options. Race shop owners tend to go to races, and tire shop places don't always have the A-team in the shop Also, and I can't stress this enough, any honest BMW dealership service adviser will tell you to buy tires literally anywhere but the BMW dealership. They can't touch tire shop pricing and don't bother trying, partially because it doesn't pay as well as billing BMW for yet another warranty issue that takes a tech down a diagnostic and procedure-following rabbithole

Try looking for a specialty wheel store that's used to high-end cars. They'll know how to do the work without scratching anything. Been using shops like that for a while and haven't had a problem since.

In the tristate area it's easily 50/tire
I just found a mobile tire shop based in stamford that will come home and install tires. If i give him loose wheels and tires he does them for 35/wheel. Does great work, no scratches on the new wheels He's come twice in the past 7 days and: Mounted/balanced 12 tires Changed tpms in 8 tires Balanced 6 tires None of those instances is a duplicate, all different tires. Still missing 8 tires but I'm good for now |
