Another headlight projy: DTM rings, gloss black everything, CF eyelid

Gonna toss up a teaser pic while I'm about 80% complete. Considering doing a mini diy because the one in the tutorial section on the bavgruppe site is pretty garbage and vague at best.

Looks good so far. i have toyed with the idea of opening up my headlights just to black them out, no LED rings or anything...

One light went back into the oven tonight to seal up. These freakin Bavgruppe rings are such a nuisance. The outer ring loves to smoosh up against the lens no matter how much you trim the ring, shroud, or housing.
I love the gloss black everything on these. Went with two coats of clear on the shrouds, inside corner, and housing trim.

post a DIY up!

one thing that I learned about the carbon lid - it's there to hide the wires.

Makes me think differently of these mods now lol

The eyelid absolutely is to hide wiring and the cut you make to the outer ring. Without it, these rings would not work on the E9X.

How hard was it to take these apart? I've done plenty of other cars with the heat gun... Never touched the e92, though.

I go 7 minutes at 225 in the oven, then I use a plastic pry tool and flat head screwdriver to very easily separate the lens from the housing. Then while the butyl glue is still soft use your flat head to scrape the larger bits of glue out of the channel on the housing.

Yeah, if I didnt know better I would think they are trying to encourage people to use their installers instead of diy'ing.

Yah, when I did mine (V3 Round Rings) no instructions existed at all. He gave me the most vague pictures. Then I searched up BavGruppe on craigslist whos been doing headlights for 30 years and was familiar with their products and installed it for $400/pair

Bumping this, what tape dl people use to line and mount the eyelids? I searched, used Google, but I saw two mentions of tape (one DIY on m3post, and bavgruppe instructions), but curious what majority of people have used. Would black electrical tape be fine?

I didn't tape mine, pressure from the insert holds it in place fine.
