This all sounds like day dreaming.
What I want is a I6 with one small turbo that takes from 2 cylinders and one huge turbo that takes from 4 cylinders. And have massive boost.

I was reading something a while back that talked about multi-turbo set ups and eliminating lag. It said that most dual turbo set ups were for low and mid range boost but typically fell off at high rpm. From what some say, this is a characteristic of the 335i. So a third turbo to boost the high RPM range would ensure boost throughout the powerband. This was talking about turbo V6's btw, forget which motor. Might have been the Ford ecoboost.

Anyway, I think this may be why a triple turbo V6 is in the discussion. Interstingly I think a fully exhaust driven tri turbo is possible on an I6, a V6 would need a different souce for a third tubo.

All this evidence, 3.3L and one electrically driven turbo, is starting to add up to a V6.

You people realize TT stands for twin turbo, not turbo turbo. What is with this TTT crap?

I assume the electric turbo would act like the small turbo in old sequential turbo setups. The electric turbo kicks in immediately on throttle and is phased out as the twin turbos spool up.

I was just as skeptical a couple years when X5 M and X6 M rumors were in full force.

X1 M, X2 M, X3 M, and X4 M are all very likely to happen. The reason is simple - people overseas go gaga for these.

Could be.

But I heard it is actually going to have six turbos. Two are exhaust powered, one is magnetic, one is powered by rodents being stung by bees, one is driven off of a little tiny windmill on the tip of the sharkfin, and one is actually powered directly from the depths of your mind (it can even harvest the power of your dreams).

X1M =

X3M =

X5M =

X6M =

See a pattern? There is no reason for M SAVs. They should just call it X3 x.xiS!! And for God's sake, don't share the power plant between the two! Friggin Rediggolous

Interesting update. The tri-turbo sounds promising, but I really love the V8 in the M3 e9x-- nothing beats the audiogasm it delivers. The next gen would've to be really great for me to switch.

This sums up perfectly where BMW is going and why I may have bought my last one. I don't even know what they're doing anymore.

What they will be doing is churning out quantity.
M will now stand for ///MASS Produced.

have some faith in BMW to make another great engine and stop the whinging until you know what they are going to do. All recent M engines have been pretty good after all .....

The new M5 shares the same engine as the X5 M and X6 M. No doubt the new M6 will share that powerplant as well.

The 1M already shares the same engine as the -35i cars.

The M3 will most likely share as well

there is no way we'll get a clean sheet design on new M engines anymore, costs way too much

im sure it'll be a 3.3 liter V6

I think the Autoexpress Artikle is not 100% correct and a little bit confusing.

To my Infos there are only two 6 cylinder possibilities, because the M-GmbH has developed them for testing:

- an 3.3ltr.V6 TT(T) ... developed from the S63 M5 4.4ltr.V8 TT
- an 3.2ltr.I6 TT(T) ... developed from the N55 engine

In the moment the descision has gone to the inline-6 3.2ltr. because itīs the cheapest alternative ... the 3.2ltr is the maximum displacement they can get from the N55 engineblock ... more displacement wouldnīt come because that meens an complete new engineblock ... and that is too costly.

I love the idea of going back to I6 for the new M3. Plus Tri-turbo! That has to be an amazing combination. I am sure it will still sound and drive awesome just like all previous I6 M cars! Also BMW, throw as much technology in it as you can please! The M3 should stand clear above the competition in every respect!

Z4M! Bring it forward please! Make it lightweight and use the same engine as in the new M3. That will make it even faster than the M3!

New M1!!! Come on BMW, every single enthusiast literally BEGS for this car! Just DO IT please!!!!!!!!

No z4m but x3m and x1m. Confirms that the 'M' now stands for 'marketing'.
