M3 US Sale date will not be during Calander Year 2007
I was at a BMW CCA event tonight where the guest speaker was the former M-brand manager and current X5 brand manager. He gave a very nice talk to our club about the new X5. Afterward I asked him about the new M3. Specifically two questions. 1. Will the M3 be sold in the US this year? He told me it would not be available in the US during Calendar year 2007. 2. Are the rumors of a twin clutch gearbox true? He said that the M3 will be available with a twin clutch gearbox, and it will have a different name than SMG.
Bummer, I really thought we'd see the manual tranny versions sometime this year. |

Why did you not like the SMG? My dad has one and he loves it, I've gotten to drive it many times, even at Watkins Glen. I have to say I like it too. I'm curious about your experiences.

SMG is something that you have to work at to really get a full appreciation for it, but once that happens I believe most SMG owners are hooked

I'm guessing it will make it's US debut at the L.A. auto show (Dec'07/Jan'08) then go on sale shortly there after.

Actually, there has been a lot of discussion on here about this car's US price. Several members have thrown out base MSRPs in the 60 to 65K range. If this is true, and BMW holds to its form of pricing options, this car would be closer to 80K fully loaded.
I hope you're saving up.

Wonder if and when BMW will put the V8 from the E92 M3 into the Z4 M coupe/roadster? Only makes sense if those cars are still being sold in one year, as it wouldn't be worthwhile to keep the M inline-six around for two low-volume cars.
BMW NA Brand Manager Martin Birkmann alluded to that in an interview with Bimmer magazine (see below), but it depends on if the car is still being produced in one year. Bimmer: Will the Z4 M Coupe get the new V8 that is coming in the E92 M3? Birkmann: Of course, we haven’t yet announced what engine will be in the E92 M3, but if you think about how we have dealt with our engine programs in the past, we do use the same engine across different body variances. If there is a V8 and the Z4 M Coupe is still being produced, the likelihood is that they will be matched. |

I doubt you'd see it in the current generation, but I believe it's very likely in the next gen Z4 M.
