Driveway issue? (ZCP on order)

I actually walked away from a great deal on a new house because the driveway was too steep and would definitely scrape (even scraped with my gf's Nissan Maxima). Perhaps I could have come in at an angle but I can't imagine dropping serious $$$ on a nice house and having to play games every single day to get my cars in and out.

Hard to tell for sure from a picture but I'd say the transition from the street to the driveway is the only spot where there's a sharp enough change in angle for it to matter. What matters is the combination of overhang and height of the front lip compared to the approach angle on the driveway. ZCP is not super-extremely low. I predict it will be fine, and if not, Griots has a bridge to sell you.

yeah, I can tell by looking at that pulling in that way would be fine. Actually he could probably pull in from either direction and be fine as long as he came in at an angle.

Backing out might be an issue though if he were to crank the wheel left/counterclockwise to pull out that way. If it were my car I'd be sure to back out at the 45* angle to the lower right.

You should have ordered the non-ZCP.

It's difficult to judge just with photos, but the normal version should have no problem (at least on the left side). Be careful and get in slow on an angle. You can also remodel the driveway. The ZCP is not much lower, but has less clearance.

Yep, for starters always put the EDC in full Sport. The additional compression may make the difference between scraping especially during any weight transfer.

You'll have zero problems. I had the same concern when deciding on ZCP. My driveway is worse and I don't need to angle pulling out. When I pull in I come from the "going up the hill" direction. Though I have to have EDC on sport, on comfort I'll sometimes scrape if I forget to go to sport, when pulling out.

If you can get that WRX in, I'm guessing the M3 would be easier.

Thanks guys for all the thoughts! It seems like most think it should be possible to get it up the driveway in one piece, so fingers crossed I can make it work. If not, I can try one of those curb bridge things (thanks My5UV) or something similar.

I probably would not have ordered the ZCP if I could do it again, but at the time the clearance issue just didn't even cross my mind. I have never had any issue with clearance on a car before. Even one of my prior cars, a Mazda RX-8, had only 4.7" of clearance, and I used to pull into this driveway on the steep side straight on at full speed. I am hoping that since the ZCP isnt much lower than that (around 4.2" I think) I can get it in by going real slow and at the right angle...

that's steep but that's nothing... my driveway is worse and I clear it with my reviora lip, which should make my non-zcp clearance the same as ZCP

I was able to clear before with my 335i when it was lowered with an Aero Lip (but NOT when it was lowered with a Hamann lip....that was too low)

at a crazy angle but yeah... you get used to it

We're looking for a new house and the first thing I do is look at the driveway too lol

It's going to be pretty close either forward or in reverse, but your best bet is to park on the LEFT side of the garage. I'd avoid entering and backing up sideways all the time; not good for the chassis, and you'd hear it protest

. If you were to park on the right side, sideways would be the only way to avoid scraping IMO, but you should be (barely) fine on the left side, and normally (forward). Good luck, and let us know who was right

. Have your wife (or somebody else) guide you carefully the first time.

I've got about 3" of clearance. It really has been my own fault the 2 times I've scraped it. Not paying attention and took it too fast.

Looks easier driving in going uphill than downhill. That will make a big difference. Really don't think you should have much of a problem. I scraped all the time with my 997, it had a lot more front overhang than an M3.

You will be fine. I was worried with the lowered height of the ZCP. In almost 1 year ownership, scrapped it only 2-3 time with no ill effect. Seriously, it looks more than doable on a ZCP.

That is guaranteed to scape. You'll have to pull in and out at a 45 degree angle.
