I preferred to add lightness to my flawed e46 m3 pile.

Newer isn't necessarily better, at least for me. I'll hold onto my E93 until either the new M5, or if that turns up to be like the F8x M cars too, it'll be a 911 C4S probably.
New 911 are turbo. You may have to stay with older cars, in the slow lane, to get the feel yku want. We have had 2002, Bavaria, 635 and frankly they are cars you have to love to drive. But lots of feel if that is what you want. Ill probably buy a 996TT or 997TT next and mod it. Cant afford 991TT.

My next car is most likely a 360 Modena. They're practically dirt cheap right now...

And, yes...I will put it on air ride

360 u need to pull the engine out of the car for service so your first one could be as much as that dirt cheap u mentioned.

I have a E93 and insted of upgrading to M4 i want to buy E92 .
And have both.
I like everything about this car .

Choice betwen new c63 and M4 . Ofcourse AMG.

The next M cars will have and 4.0 tt v8 i belive.
BMW needs and engine like this to compete with others . S55 is just temporaly solution .

The 4.0 displacemnt is where the high duty starts for chinese market . thats why Audi/Benz have it .

Another is 3.0 for china also thats why they make it even in 911 now.

Bottom line, BMW engineers design cars with a forward looking eye, particularly, Ms. So unless we are prepared to say that BMW engineers suddenly went backward, M progeny cars will always be a step forward overall from their predecessors.

BTW, I'm a 2011 M3 owner.

I saw a black on black coupe comp pckg m4 today on the road with aftermarket suspension and deep concave wheels... All I gotta say is that motherf@cker looked mean as hell! It really is a shame that it's a turbo six, but then again, a lot of us were boosting our e46 M3's back in the day because we wanted more power and the s54 could handle the boost very well all the way up to 8600 rpms... But BMW set the bar so much higher when they dropped a high revving 4.0 v8 in their next car... There is just no going back from there... I would have liked to see a supercharged v8 in the M4 with another broad powerband such as the S65... Going back to a six cylinder that redlines around the 7k mark and its engine is similarly shared by several other BMW models is the biggest shocker for me... Call me old school but I would even be ok if BMW had gone back to the S54 with a turbo for the M4... At least it's engine dynamics would be remarkably unique from other 4 series... 1 or 2k more rpms would even suffice me for the new model.. Despite the lack of growl from its somewhat boring engine platform, the M4 coupe comp package lowered with some wide wheels is one sexy car!

Sure the new car performs better vs old, but it took +50 bhp over a wider rpm range to do it (actual bhp not what bmw claims). If anything, the S65 had 414bhp in optimal conditions only (most have measured lower than this). When one considers that effectively modern upgrades to the E9x M3, including decent brakes, lighter suspension components, lighter wheels, removal of sound deading, better software, a wider track, you could have closely equivalent track performance and a power bump in the V8 would have made it equal. I feel like BMW ///M had the opportunity to hit the ball out of the park and take a further leap beyond the competition, like they did with the E46 and E90 but instead were complacent with outperforming the outgoing model with a few obvious upgrades that would have happened anyway over the course of time. The ///M division lost all its autonomy and you saw it by some of the big-name departures that were formerly BMW lifers that were born and raised in the ///M division...we know that the current model is not the one the ///M division wanted to produce. Sadly, this is the current state of automotive affairs that has even affected the likes of Porsche and Ferrari, which is bad for enthusiasts, but good for clean lungs!

It's not an F8x problem, it's a prior-gen and current gen problem with any BMW that drives me crazy. BMW has entire teams dedicated to electronic sounds and the right fragrances, yet somehow they missed something incredibly simple like a seatbelt latch that can stay in one place and not sink into the seat when trying to attach a car seat. This is a widespread complaint that the company chooses to ignore. Also, this problem exists in no other car, including cheap rental car chryslers.

Also the thing is just bigger. My next car might have to be a 1 series and by then my son will be out of the booster anyway.

Much of the quote encapsulates much that's relevant to the current state of M cars as well as other marques as noted. Well said.

As much as BMWAG's choice of direction is understandable given the political pressure created by folks that want our cars to be "cleaner". What is not understandable is why BMW chose to play ball with a 6-cylinder engine for the F8x when Porsche & Nissan GT-R owned the 6 cylinder performance car market. To me, the entire exercise was a half-hearted measure...then. Now, well over a year since launch, nothing new is on offer.

@ OP: We're on page 4 in your thread with its technical/spec point and three things have been proven at this point.

1. You have made no new friends (based on responses prior to this post);
2. IF you were trolling, and I am less than certain that you were, a slew of folk have been successfully trolled.
3. Somewhere between 85% and 95% of the replies are either irrelevant/ cute or crucify-the-messenger rather than on either point in the OP.

As one that is busy with other things in life, no time to read every thread, this thread does give me reason to wonder whether the rank and file driving enthusiasts these days at M3Post are really as nonchalant about their car's c.o.g. as their responses ITT suggest. Perhaps some were simply working on their trolling skills. I hope that's the case. Regardless, I was unaware of the 2-inch difference. While two inches is no big deal for street car driving, which I'll hazard a guess is the extent that the overwhelming majority posting in this thread restrict themselves too in their Mx, their significant others might find two inches a substantial amount. Perhaps there will some comments on that(?).

You are correct, most prefer that extra 2 inches.
