M3 depreciation
I wanted to get an idea of what the M3 depreciates at. i'm about to pull the trigger on a 2013 M3 roughly invoice+500. i usually don't keep my cars longer than 4 years. what would the trade in value be if i were to trade in the m3 4 years down the line. I know i could sell it privately but its just too much of a hassle. I owned an 08 porsche cayman s. and traded it in after 2 years. daily driver with 30k miles. and i paid roughly 70 tax included. car was valued at 34k at trade in during 2010. i dont want the same thing to happen, where i lose 30-40k in 3 years when i go to trade it in (auction pricing). any one have experience here?

Depends on who you ask around here. Every iteration of M3 has always held value. IMO, this gen is gonna drop off a cliff initially when this F8x comes out but then level off and rebound EXTREMELY well. When people realize that this car represents the last of an uncompromising philosophy, then these cars will be HIGHLY sought after and suddenly hard to find. Just my .02 cents.

Do you lease or buy? I'm the same way about wanting a new car every 2-3 years so that's why I lease. I'm about to sign a lease for a 2013 M3 and the residual value is 61%. If you don't go over your allotted miles, there's a good chance a dealer will pay off the lease before it's due allowing you to start from scratch. I've done this on my past 2 leases.

I buy. I just don't like the idea of leasing. I've heard both sides. many debates. but from how i know i am. i want the freedom to unload the car whenever i want if it ever comes to it. on a lease, i feel like i'd be locked in for the time frame i agreed to unless you decide to put it up for someone else to assume. lets just say getting the 2013 M3 now, and if i decide to let it go after 2 years. how much could i be expecting to get back? i see that 2011 M3's are going for about 50-55k retail. whats auction price looking like right now for the 2011? would it be safe to say it'll hold true for the 2013 as well? the 2011 should be a good benchmark.
