safety inspection for VA , avoid bmw sterling

what i thought would be a quick state inspection during a recall. they rejected due to 'painted' reflectors and quoted me for parts/labor .

I'll be taking the car back to my local gas station for va safety inspection.

Well reflectors are a safety item in a “safety inspection”. Doesn’t shock me they wouldnt pass you - it’s a liability on their end. I’ve been failed for less at local gas stations.

*Plus I have only recieved great service from my advisor Sean at the Sterling location.

Love Sterling, but my dad had the same exact thing happen to him... plus made him remove his windshield tint

Why are you guys surprised that you’re getting failed for really obvious things at a shop that is very familiar with these cars? If you’re trying to sneak things through, you need a shop that doesn’t know what it’s doing.

Go to GT Peace, VA Tire or Goodyear and you should be fine. Never go to the dealer for state inspections.

For recall work they're fine. They just handled my F31 recall and did a good job. Elijah Beever and Beaver Ho are the service guys you want to deal with.

Jim Eddy is very helpful as well.

I would never, ever take my car to the stealership for a safety inspection. I bet they quoted you like $200 to do that! I'm surprised they didn't hit you for a non-CARB X-pipe. Let me know if you need a stock one

Does anyone else in VA have issues with passing inspection w/ windshield tint? I am currently contemplating it, but not if they are just going to make me remove it a few months.

Go to a dermatologist and ask them to sign off on the VA DMV form for tint because you are "concerned about skin cancer". Mine did it although I did not tint the front window, just the other windows in a darker than legal tint in both cars. Its on my registration and the cops can't do S about it.

Noiceee... noob question... how do I get it on my registration? I've also heard a similar strategy of getting a note from an optometrist.

As I stated above there is a form on the DMV website you print out and take to your optometrist or dermatologist and they will sign off on it. Take that to the DMV to get it added to the registration.
