Review Dinan CF intake kit

Just picked up a second hand Dinan CF intake elbow and filter kit,

I went from stock filter and elbow to the Dinan kit, the most noticeable difference is the new music coming from under the hood now.
Of course the S65 sounds incredible to begin with, this just amplifies and sweetens that sound

I have no idea if this makes any more power (8hp claimed) but the sound it makes is addictive. I have only put 40 miles on it since i installed,
initial butt dyno says yes more power, and more of a snap to the throttle response

Build quality is extremely high, it fits perfectly, installation took 20 mins.

Cant say it warrants Dinan asking $895 for it, but i'm extremely happy with it for just over half of retail!

I agree, I just installed mine as well. I previously had an aftermarket filter installed. The throttle response definitely is improved over what it was before, and my filter was clean. The mid to upper rpm range seems much smoother. The sound is a great improvement as well!

It was extremely simple, i did it without any kind of instructions.

1) Remove all the Torx bolts then lift and pull the lid towards the fender, the front left corner of the airbox lid fits under the air duct from the grill so it cannot be lifted straight up, has to go towards the fender a bit
2) loosen all clamps
3) Squeeze the clamp that holds the small hose to the elbow, it comes right off
4) Push the spring loaded post back that keeps the filter from wobbling around and lift filter, elbow and coupler out of the box/off the intake plenum

5) I put the filter, elbow & coupler together on the work bench
6) Set it close to it's final position, make sure the coupler is fitting all the way around the intake inlet
7) Once the coupler is around the intake inlet, with a slight push of the spring loaded button to allow the filter to fall, it falls right into its home
8) Make sure all the clamps will end up where you want them when tight and tighten them up
9) Put the airbox lid back on, be careful not to over tighten the torx bolts as they will strip out very easily.
10) Put the small hose back on the elbow, it has a slight click when properly set

It should take no longer the a half hour, i cleaned the inside of the box out while everything was apart.

$69 for a replacement filter so $830 for an elbow, 2 couplers and some hose clamps! Ridiculous for sure.

So the Dinan name must be worth $500 cause i cant see the CF elbow and couplers being worth more then $330.

Oh yeah the CF elbow has a billet mount for the small hose on it(dont know what it is), that must be why its so expensive

Well the MS is molded plastic with a larger neck down at the airbox coupler. At least the Dinan is hand made carbon fiber. Yet no one seems to complain about there pricing?

A professional race car driver came by yesterday to have his M3 tuned.

He had the DINAN intake on his car. I was THOROUGHLY impressed by the quality and fitment of the intake. Even the rubber that they use to connect the parts allows for play and vibration so the intake doesn't pop off, rattle, etc.

I was so impressed, that I'm going to get one for my M3. It is without question the best intake product I've seen for this car. Regardless of cost it is definitely a premium product, and I believe in paying for quality and proper design.

I will post a pic of his kit when I get to a computer. On mobile now

I noticed a slight a power gain right after the install of my Dinan intake. If Dinan claims 8hp on a dyno, actual street gain is gotta be more than that. I have a MS air filter by the way.

I'm confused, are you saying Dinan is under rating how much power this kit makes?

Might be the best intake in the market. They already went from $999.00 to $899.00 which was a move in the right direction. Fit and finish is amazing on it.

I'm saying if the mod requires the vehicle to be moving, then yes, I'd say both Dinan and MS stg2 are underrated on the dyno. A giant fan in front of the car does not even remotely simulate real driving. You will need air compressors to simulate incoming air, which most shops don't have and won't have.

I know everyone says "just get a drop-in", I feel the otherwise as I have tried a BMC drop-in, MS stg2, and now I have a Dinan cf intake coupled with MS air filter.

Congrats on your Dinan, it's the best intake option for our M3.

I also have RPi v2 scoops installed, don't know if they help at all since the kidney air inlet is so small, but this video shows they do route air into the motor better.

Why run the MS filter over the Dinan? I heard the Dinan filter is made by K&N is that true?

If it is true then K&N and MS filters should be similar as far as air flow is concerned, right?

I really can't tell you if K&N makes the Dinan filter, but Dinan do recommend getting a new filter every 20,000 miles. I thought I just use a washable filter like the MS, and sell the Dinan blue filter on the forum.

K&N makes the Dinan filter (per my discussions with Dinan).
