M3 11 miles per gallon.

I know the M3 was ran very hard on these short tests but all the driving wasn't on the track, some of it was on the roads near the track. To get 11 mpg is awful whether it is a Ferrari F430 or a Viper. The Z06 and Clk 63 Black Series can get 15+ miles per gallon driven hard and they pack 505 hp/470lbs torque and 500 hp/465lbs or torque and do 0 - 60 in 3.6 and 4 seconds respectively. In addition, the Black Series weighs in at whopping 3920 lbs. To make matters worse, the M3 has much less horsepower and less than 300lbs of torque. It will be doing very well if it can do 0-60 in 4.4 with DCT. One also must rember M3's 4 liter V8 has the latest technology . It's nice to have high rpm race engines in production cars and nobody does it better than BMW M except for Ferrari. I don't mind getting 12 miles to the gallon if I have close to 450+ horsepower on tap and well over 300 lbs of torque. I do mind if I have less than 450 horsepower and less than 300lbs of torque and the car runs 0-60 in the mid 4s. Isn't BMW's new slogin for the e92 M3 have something to do with efficient dynamics? Just a thought.

We went out racing one night, we drove 45 minutes to the race and 45 minutes back. He gets on it every now and then, and he raced obviously when we got there. His average miles per gallon for that trip was 16. The car was only driven hard maybe 5-10 minutes out of 1 and 1/2 hours.

Then he needs to get his car tuned. I average about 22-23 mpg on about 50/50 city v.highway and I get on it hard more than once a day.

Point taken. 15+ may be overly optimistic, but again maybe 4.4 0-60 is overly optimistic for the M3. What doesn't change is the disparity of mileage for an underpowered M3 in comparison to higher performing cars.

Doesnt have to be a 70k car as price of car does not determine gas mileage. I see it like this, If you cant afford fuel you sure as heck cant afford insurance. So it would be actually no car.

HAHAHA......you guys have NO idea how bad fuel economy is on this type of engine. The M5 / M6 and now the M3 share the same architecture of high revs / low torque......

I get 8-9 mpg farting around in the M6, the 11 mpg for the M3 sounds about right driving it hard.

Want fuel economy? Go buy a TDI Golf......

What kind of response do you want? Want me to give the EPA estimates for the new m3??? There's no literature out on the kind of mileage the car gets so I'm not sure what you're looking for. But if you're complaining about gas mileage on a performance car, then I don't think I'm underestimating what you can and can't afford. If you're such a baller, why don't you buy the m3, and get a civic hybrid for your daily driver.

This IS ridiculous... its 11mpg when driving hard which isnt bad for a V8 when you are flogging it. Hell I dont think I get much better than 11mpg when I am flogging my E36 M3....

I have to agree that much of this thread is pretty ridiculous. Under the right circumstances, almost any car can get poor mileage. I drive an E90 330i and have gotten highway milage as high as 32mpg.

However, last week I got stuck in July 4th weekend traffic in Manhattan and I got 12.2mpg. Granted, I spent 4 hours trying to drive 12 miles!

the old one had about 1000-1500 gas guzzler tax, and it got better mileage than this one

My Buddy gets over 27mpg on the highway in his Z06 and his is modded.

I guess many of you are missing the point. Driving down the highway, or going to work, is much different than testing a brand new car for a magazine or racing it. In my opinion, 11mpg isn't that bad, I bet they were beating the hell out of the car the entire time.

I get 8 mpg in my E46 M3 when I track it.

11 does not sound bad by that standard.

In normal use I get a little over 20 mpg in mixed driving.

Trust me - you will not see anywhere near 11mpg out of a C6 Z06 on a road course... I'm usually somewhere in the 6-8mpg range with mine.
