What do you guys consider "high mileage?" Looking to purchase

Shopping for my next car. An e90 M3 is something that came up. I've been looking and have seen many different configurations. One thing that I've been trying is to stay as low as possible and find a 2011. I'm considering tossing the idea out and finding something that I would like, and sacrifice the mileage a bit if it's worth it. I will ask about routine maintenance like rod bearings, but is 70k miles a lot? I would certainly stay away from it if it were an N54 335i.
Thoughts? It is obviously out of warranty.

i bought mine with 75k miles on it and a squeaky clean maintenance history all up to date including preventative RB replacement and throttle actuators. i also bought the car for a very reasonable price with the options i wanted. if the car is clean and all up to date i wouldn't hesitate. overall the s65 is a very reliable motor.

seeing as how you take very good care of your cars, i don't think mileage matters

Modern engines tend to go til 200k. But bmw uses alot of plastics that fail at 100k. Expect to spend 3k+ at 100k mark to renew the belt, hoses, pulleys, water pump, tstat and sensors. Brakes and rotors are pricey too so check those as well. Definitely not a car for someone who doesn't have disposable income. When things come up it's not cheap.

I feel there is no reason to shy away from 100k+ mile cars that have been maintained. 1-2 owner vehicles with service records...

My single owner, 117k mile '08, was $21k. I would have a hell of a time justifying $30k for a newer model year with even 60k miles less.

3 weeks ago I bought a 2009 M3 with 78k miles for 24.3k at a bmw dealership. I'm in the process now of building up my emergency fund just in case sometime goes wrong. I will probably do the rod bearings sometime in the next 3 months. I'm loving the car so far!

That's good to hear. It's not the same case with the 335i sometimes.

Not sure which one you are referring to but since you've mentioned in another post that you were looking at MR '11 e90 M3 with 70K miles, my assumption is you are referring to the one in Toyota of Bellevue. I was at that dealer last weekend to service my Camry and saw that M3 on the lot. It does look like, it had paint work done at least rear bumper are. It might not sound bad but I would check that at a shop before buying if I were you.

That was not being looking at that one actually. A buddy was also in the market and was looking at that. I was in the market for AW.
I will definitely give him a heads up about that though.

I see zero issues in buying a higher mileage cars. I used to double-track my E46M3 with 170k miles... these things are built to last as long as you understand maintenance

I bought a 36k mile E90 last year and have already changed the rod bearings.

If you buy a car that has 70k you should also do suspension, but it's pretty easy to pick the B12 Bilstein kit if you want to remain OEM+

Average in the US is 12-15k per year, so anything more than that would be considered "high mileage" in my book.
