Why all new series of BMWs look the same?

I just saw the new 6 series coupe and when I compare it to the 5 and 7 series, they look pretty much the same. The only difference is the size now. It is somehow that I kinda know how the new 3 series and M3 going too look like. Do you guys think the same way or I am the only one? And do you guys like the look of new generation of BMWs?

BMW has always been conservative with the bread and butter 3er. But also new German laws require flat noses and big side mirrors. I still think BMW over-designs their cars these days. Way too many lines and nothing is sleek and elegant. I don't like the front end of any BMW today. They've lost their way. They've even steered away from the symmetry interiors including the angled (to the driver) mid dash. Hard to believe the BMW of today is the same company that turned out the Z8 not that long ago.

They do look similar, the 6 series actually slots really well between the 5 and the 7 in terms of design.

So true! The last classic looking BMWs for me were the E46 M3, E39 M5, and the Z8.

I also think they're getting uglier every iteration. I think the E92 coupe (including the M3, obviously) is the best looking BMW I've seen IMO.

And yes, not only BMW making all its damn cars pretty much the same, but all other manufacturers as well. It's boring as hell, and at least in my opinion, shows a lack of innovation and character. Just look at all Lexus, Infiniti... all look the same, except size. Even main-stream manufacturers are jumping on the 'me too' bandwagon, like Hyundai. Oh well.

Even in consideration to the 2002 tii and 2002 turbo, 3.0cs/3.0csl, First generation M6 (or simply the 635i), M1, and E30 M3? I'd throw the E46 M3/csl in there too but most here would throw a hissy. Well, definitely the E46 M3 CSL (oh well). Perhaps I'll throw in the E21 320si with the basket weave BBS wheels (either silver/gold or white if car was white also) and Kamei airdam. That car (any E21) significantly boosted BMW's position in the automotive world. For non-coupes, the 507 and Z8 are spectacular.

Truthfully about the only small coupe the E92 is better looking than is the 1 series. However my favorite E9X is the 320si (E90) in appearance (especially when you open up the bonnet and see the beautiful carbon fiber valve cover).

no, the new 3 series is seriously hideous. all the new bmws are hideous. i get sick to my stomach and

and the turbos ....

imho, i think p cars are WAY more similar in the looks department. all they do is add a vent here, a soft top there, different spoiler every once in a while, and throw in some back seats. to the untrained eye, all p cars (excluding the cayenne and panamera) look the same.

They do all look the same. Sharing the same ugly (current generation) gene. Pretty much can guess what the next 3 series is gonna look like... The P cars are looking better and better.

With the M3 at least I think they're trying to combat Porsche's changes by by adding more space in the cockpit. I read somewhere that the new engine, whether it is the V6 or in-line 6, will boost HP up to 450 and the car will be lighter overall. What's wrong with that? It's not like they're trying to make a worse car.

Everyone hated Bangle design but at least each series had it's uniqueness. I prefer the previous 6er's looks to this new one. BMW has now gone the Audi route by making every car a similar and bigger version of the lower number. I guess sales trump design everytime.

In the 6 series forum, they put the new and old 6 series beside each other. Honestly I think the old one looks way nicer!

PS. I really like the way it was before, the 5 series looked completely different from 3 series and 7 series. I don't understand why all manufacturers are making all of their cars the same look. Maybe for cost cutting...
