They quoted me $1400 for 5 years. I decided to self-insure. Since the option is offered as a money making proposition for bmw, I'm biased in favor of self-insuring.

Just me though...depends on your risk tolerance. Had they told me it covered curb rash I might have been swayed.

Cheers

Saw you got the car in the other thread - congrats! I am supposedly on way to port or at port and hoping to nab a ship ride in next few days or next week.

Congrats! Not too much longer... and I'm going to be very jealous of your 6nr too... if only I had your patience.

Be sure to post details when you get it!

I just liked to have the frame of mind that everything is covered. I didn't assume curb rash was, but am pleasantly surprised and even happier I have that coverage, just in case.

This stinks. It happened to me only a month after I put the Fikse's on the car. I pretend not to notice. It's right rear as well.

I paid $200.00 for the tire, and $450.00 for the rim. Now alignment will be $150.00

Contacted Son Tran today, set an appt up for Friday. Guess this guy is a legend when it comes to wheel repair, so I'm lucky that I work in Orange County, CA! Will try to take before/after pics, though there seem to plenty already on the net.

Check out one of his repairs on some ZCP rims (posted on a ricer site for some reason...)

This was not true for me.. i asked my service center if they covered curb rashes because i too have wheel and tire insurance and they said HELL NOOO.. from what i know it only covers cracked/ bent rims , bubbles on tires and flat tires.. and of course you would have to have stock wheels and tires for that insurance to cover it..

Just wanted to close out the story here...Son Tran came by my office yesterday and got right to work...an hour later, curb rash was totally erased!! Like it never happened. He had mentioned a price of $75, so I handed him $100 - he gave me $20 back!! Anyway, another guy in my office also took the opportunity to have his Merc S-class AMG wheels worked on as well...same result, another happy customer!

I forgot my camera, so sorry no pics. But see my earlier link to that JDM site to see his work before and after on a ZCP rim.

Son Tran - FTW!!! Curb Rash Eraser!!
