Any ECommerce Owners Here?

With so many guru's and posers out there its hard to find a decent community to talk ecom with. Any bimmerposters in ecom?


It'd be great to talk about whats' working and what's not.


What platform are you using. I"m on shopify

What marketing strategies are working in your space. I've had some sucess with instagram. Facebook provided limited conversion but CAC was too high.



Anyone out there?

I do e-commerce, but more so Amazon drop shipping, so no need to worry about marketing.

Yeah. I run a WooCommerce website selling consumer electronics to the domestic market.
I've been doing it for five years and managed it up to $500,000k+ per annum revenue with two staff, then back down to $50k/pa doing it all myself.

What works:
1) 100% no questions asked money back gaurantee.
2) Email marketing via mailchimp.
3) eBay
4) Amazon (for some stuff)
5) Accepting Cryptocurrency (damn I wish I hadn't cashed out in 2012)
6) Hiring uni students on a casual basis to do pick and pack work.
7) Twitter. (Buggered if I know why, I've never really 'got' twitter, but it seems to work)
8) Paypal merchant services. (They might not be the cheapest, but they're easiest).
9) Accepting purchase orders and American Express.

What doesn't:
1) Facebook (too much work) and Google Adwords (too expensive)
2) Amazon for low volume stuff (fees too high)
3) Outsourcing bookkeeping to indians (hourly rate is low, but you need to micromanage the fuckers and they take the piss at the first chance they get)
4) Owning a company on your own without any business partners to pick up the slack & keep you motivated when you're totally over it.
5) Accepting credit cards when shipping overseas. (Fraud. Two out of three orders are fraud)
6) Lifestyle expansion. *NEVER* use side-gig money to fund normal living. Pay down your loans and buy toys that don't need ongoing maintenance. Suffering from "mortgage stress" and not being able to pay for upkeep on your expensive toys (ie. the N54) when trading conditions worsen is an entirely preventable, stressful and downright stupid situation to put yourself in.

Woocommerce is great - it's a lot more work than shopify but cheaper and more flexible. I'd probably use Neto or Shopify if I had had my time again.

Lol. I have 100 business cards here that I printed for myself with a title of CEO. I was really proud the day they arrived, like I'd achieved one of my life goals.

Then I handed one out - to like, a tradie who asked for my card - He didn't ask any questions, but when I walked away I was deeply embarrassed. Calling yourself "CEO" of a company with two staff and no board of directors is narcissistic to the extreme.

I could sleep at night handing out cards with "Founder", but not "CEO".

A CEO is employed by a board of directors.

I own three e-commerce companies however I have come more involved in the product development side. Majority of advertisement is done on Facebook, Instagram, and AdWords. I do have to say it has been very difficult to compete with the giant Amazon out there. So over the past 5 years, we have sold a lot on Amazon but also still do well with our

I love this thread. Our company owns a ecomm site and using Shopify for the last year. We were using Godaddy and Wordpress previously for about 3 years.

Marketing: We run banners on forums for regular product intro and promotions. Have a Facebook account but not active. We plan to make Youtube videos for products intro and troubleshooting videos (we are in the tech business).

We are not doing any Google Adsense or Adwords or Pay per click. We believe it is just too expensive and not worth it.

Amazon: Only been listing a few items on Amazon and we have not been doing much of their promotions (Prime Day, Bulk Order, etc...). Would like to expand this part of the business though

Would love to hear more ideas and experiences.

This true.

We use Shopify and PrestaShop. SEO/keywords is everything for us.
