Increase battery discharge = DCT shifter? Or EDC-K
Car sat (not on tender) for about a month in a garage. When I got home I got increased battery discharge warnings and after a few weeks of constantly putting on tender, finally went to dealer. They’re telling me I need to replace the DCT shifter. (Battery is a year old, OEM coded at dealer)
I assumed the EDC module that would be the root cause since it seems way more common here. Never got any warnings/malfunctions for DCT but did get one for EDC (happened first day of increased battery discharge) that went away and never came back. Start button is illuminated when car off as Mike Benvo had pointed out in an old post and I don’t have comfort access. No other lights stay on when car is off and locked. I saw only one other person here who had this replaced due to battery drain. Anyone else chime in on similar experiences? Shifter P/N = 61317842102 UPDATE: Dealership is literally bending over backwards to exhaust all options and help me out even though I am not under warranty. Will update once issue is resolved. Very pleased - this is why I drive 2 hours out of my way to this dealer for service and will continue to do so. UPDATE 2: They replaced shifter and determined it is indeed the EDC module. They are replacing both parts under goodwill for me. Thanks

So do they want to replace the illuminated knob or the module underneath? If it's the shifter I have a spare one I can lend you and swap out yourself. If it's the shifter underneath, used ones are pretty cheap since nobody ever replaces them.
Also, how much to replace the EDC module? If it's a lot cheaper maybe replace that first? Last edited by msan; 09-20-2018 at 10:39 PM.. |

I appreciate the offer and the response, will see what they say tomorrow. It’s a 2013 with 47k miles, take real good care of the car so hopefully it’s just a freak thing. Fingers crossed! Pretty curious if anyone else has had to replace because it doesn’t seem like a common failure. |

Easy way to check.. unplug the EDC module and see if the issue continues. If it does, the unplug the shifter and check again.
I've seen this many times w/ EDC, but never with GWS. That doesn't mean it couldn't be it, though. We have both parts in stock. Good luck with resolution!

They’re replacing both parts at no cost to me though. Excellent dealer!

Car is still getting the increased battery discharge even after dealership replaced the DCT shifter. They have concluded that it is in fact the EDC module that is failing and are now replacing that.
My battery is only about 10 months old, so hopefully the EDC failure didn't screw it up.

The main thing I am worried about now is the dealer not knowing to code the new EDC module correctly since I have competition package. I’m not sure if that needs to be done or not but I’ve read that is a Yes.

An actual franchise dealer will program it correctly according to the VIN/VO. The software selects the correct coding for the module. For that matter any module with an update available will also be updated at the same time. The dealership's ISTA-P software is just about foolproof.
